The thing about Maggie Moss, IMO, is not only her success but she gives back so much. She has been key in saving many horses and seeing they have a dignified retirement. Racing needs more Maggis! In an interview with Jennifer Wirth, Moss credits much of her success to a carefully chosen team of people that can produce “healthy and happy horses.” Everything she does, she says, is a work in progress, whether she is claiming horses, choosing a crew or planning for the retirement of Thoroughbreds. Moss has taken an unusual path to racing success, largely focusing on the claiming ranks and, unlike many owners, steering away from young, expensively-bred horses shooting for Triple Crown success. Despite the amount of time she spends caring for and researching her horses, Moss has been actively involved in retirement programs and founded the Hope After Racing (H.A.R.T.) program at her home track of Prairie Meadows.
