I was looking over the GRI Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap and I see that Shug doesn't train Boisterous any more. He's now in the barn of the Eclipse Award winning Todd Pletcher.
On paper it looks like Shug did nothing wrong with the horse. Last year he started 6 times 2-1-1 and earned $538,049 In 2012 he started 8 times 3-2-1 earning $422,853. So that's almost $1,000,000 in two years.
Some FACTS about Boisterous he's run twice at GP and has yet to hit the board. Shug trains the 7 Imagining...
On paper it looks like a good race and I'll be handicapping it in depth on Sunday....

His last three starts he finished 6th by 4 3/4, 3rd by 2 1/2, 8th by 7 1/4
But that 7th was in the GRI Sword Dancer from the 10 post and that post yielded only 2 winners from 15 starts.

yeah I remember he got beaten pretty badly by big blue kitten (who I bet) and the 3rd was in a six horse field allowance race where some claimed he had trouble but I thought he just stunk. I wasn't real impressed with him at the end of the year. but then again, a lot of shugs horses were tailing off at the end of the year(orb!). maybe shugs medical insurance got canceled due to O*******E and he couldn't afford his meds? see I didnt mention anything or anyone political now did I?

The switch to Todd's barn certainly improved him.... Oh wait a second I read the chart from the bottom to the top.. He ran dead last.

Wiz:
My point exactly many think Pletcher can turn a Volkswagon into a Mercedes. He has MANY Mercedes that he's turned into Rent-A-Wrecks.

pres barn switching had nothing to do with it. the horse was done last year. wiz, Boisterous lost his last three races last year, all under McGaughey - 8th in a Grade 1 at Saratoga, 3rd in a Grade 2 at Belmont, and then 6th in a Grade 3 in October at Belmont. He was then sold at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $350,000. After the sale, the new owner decided to have Pletcher train him. Yesterday was his first race since the dismal finish in the Gr. 3 Knickerbocker Stakes four months earlier. As you say he was pretty much finished by October. Speculation at the time of the sale was that he might be retired to stud. I guess the owner wanted to see what he had left before formally retiring him. We saw that yesterday. If that speculation is true, and with the breeding season opening later this week (traditionally February 15), we may just have seen Boisterous' last race.

350k isn't much of a sales price either. if they figured he had anything left in the tank, he could easily earn that much if not more with just one more year of racing and then have a freeroll as far as stud duty. they knew when they sold him his racing days at anywhere near a high level were over. SHUG, TAP, or whoever else they want to dig up to train him wouldn't matter. he is done.
