I give so much credit to jockeys, every race could be their last ride or God forbid even death. I wish Martin a full and speedy recovery. As per the Paulick Report.
Jockey Martin Pedroza broke his left shin after he was unseated and stepped on by his mount in the eighth race at Santa Anita on Friday.
Pedroza’s agent, Richie Silverstein, told the Daily Racing Form that his rider had suffered considerable swelling and was still in the hospital on Saturday morning. Silverstein added that the injury will not require surgery but that it is unclear at this point how long Pedroza will be out.
At the time of the accident, the 48-year-old journeyman had six wins from 58 mounts in the current Santa Anita meet. He was named to ride Blueskiesnrainbows for Jerry Hollendorfer in Grade 2 $300,000 San Antonio Stakes in his only mount on Saturday. Leading rider Rafael Bejarano is expected to pick up the call.
