Black Caviar now world's best racehorse as Frankel takes up new roll as stallion by: Ray Thomas From: The Daily Telegraph February 15, 2013 11:30PM
WITH English superhorse Frankel enjoying his new career as a stallion, Black Caviar has assumed the title of the world's best racehorse.
At Flemington today, Black Caviar can confirm her premier rating with a winning comeback in the Group 1 $500,000 Lightning Stakes (1000m).
After an eight-month absence from the racetrack, the mighty mare is set to resume her sensational career and is at $1.05 in TAB fixed odds betting to extend her unbeaten winning streak with her 23rd success.
It's expected Black Caviar will break some sort of record every start and if she wins the Lightning as expected, she will set the following standards:
BECOME the first horse to win three Lightning Stakes;
LIFT her prizemoney over the $7 million barrier; and
RECORD her 13th Group 1 victory, level with Sunline and Tie The Knot, and only one behind record-holder, the legendary Kingston Town.
Form guru Gary Crispe said the Lightning Stakes should be another routine win for Australia's sprint queen,
"There are no concerns about any aspect of the race for Black Caviar - she is undefeated in seven runs at Flemington, five at 1000m,'' Crispe said.
Black Caviar has a peak Timeform rating of 136, which ranks her equal with European champions Allez France and Habibti as the highest rated filly or mare in Timeform history.
Crispe said Black Caviar won't have to go anywhere near that lofty figure to ensure her undefeated record remains intact.
"If every horse ran to form in the race, Black Caviar would have a theoretical weight advantage of between 21 and 53 pounds or in lengths between five and 14 lengths,'' he said.
Crispe felt Shamexpress and Moment Of Change would fill the placings behind the great mare.
"Top three-year-old sprinters have a good record in the Lightning Stakes and although Shamexpress has some way to go to fit the profile of successful three-year-olds in the past, I am certain he will run well,'' he said.
Black Caviar has her first start today since jockey Luke Nolen was forced to stoke up the great mare to get her to the line in first place at Royal Ascot. Picture: AP Source: AP
