last time I checked, it was the responsibility and obligation of ALL players to address the media and answer questions on media day. but somehow, the thug marshawn lynch doesn't think he needs to be bothered with it, right? I have said from day one this guy is an ass, and a way bigger one then Richard Sherman even. Sherman is just the flavor of the month right now, and even though what he did lat week was uncalled for and low class as well, at least he can be funny and entertaining on occasion. lynch is nothing more the a spoiled, moody, thuggish, self entitled ass who thinks he should be treated with kid gloves and differently because of his childhood. get over it already!! what happened 10, 15, or 20 years ago is in the past, and if you cant act like a real person now with all the success you have, you might as well just swallow a bullet and put yourself and others out of their misery instead of making everyone else suffer through your tantrums and bullshit.

exactly godfather. and before the defenders come in and say he is misunderstood or better yet, paid to play football, not do interviews, let me just say this. he is paid to be a professional athlete. and if you read the contract he signed, I am 1000% sure it says and has stipulations that state he is under contract to represent himself, his team, and the league for the money he gets paid. that includes playing, merchandising, and conducting locker room interviews as well as media days. that is why they make the money they do.

Who said they HAVE to be a role model? So what if the guy doesn't want to speak to the media. He has the right not to. To me the definition of a role model is a parent, guardian, or someone that makes a difference in the community. Lynch wants his privacy and he should have it.

A athlete can have his/her privacy and still be a good role model based on the way they conduct theirself while participating in their respective sport and by the way they conduct theirself in public.

The Media is just pissed that "B Smoke" isn't giving them a "story" I agree he doesn't have to speak to them. 9 out of 10 times they just twist the facts you gave them to fit their agendas.
As the week goes on I'm getting more & more disgusted with the treatment the Seahawks are getting. Now I want them to just stomp the crap out of the Broncos. The damm media is the problem....

So...just wondering...are those of you so hell bent on demonizing Marshawn Lynch basing your comments solely on interviews he is or is not doing? Are you upset because the interviews he does or does not give aren't what you wanted or hoped for?
Before attacking what kind of role model he is (or is not) based on Television interviews, perhaps you should check out his foundations and the good he DOES do...or even ask Joe and Mrs. Montana to clarify as they work with Marshawn nearly daily on his foundation to help children who are less privileged or who grow up without certain opportunities, etc...here's the link to his foundation just for those who still wanna say this guy is a thug. I have repeatedly said that he does NOT like giving interviews or having himself under lights...he lives here in Seattle and yet he always appears uncomfortable in interviews...he is actually a very quiet and mellow and humble person but then again you wouldn't see that because before he even utters a word you have pegged him as a thug....and TRULY...I am NOT biased...just informed about him and who he is...having the benefit of a few more interviews than the rest of the country I CAN tell you that guy is focused on his game and his charitable work...so what if he isn't a camera hog or hamming it up in interviews...as long as he plays the game I could care less...too bad more don't see it that way.
I am with Pres on THIS one...the Seahawks have gotten basically pissed on this week...come on!!! Who the Hell cares about Russell Wilson's haircut or that Sherman interview a couple weeks ago...the Super Bowl is just days away and yet the Seahawks are only being appreciated by the true fans of the sport and also the media guys who can see how talented this young team really is. You wanna talk about thugs....how about starting with that wretched interview Colin Kaepernick gave about Sherman?? There's a thug mentality at it's finest (I mean seriously...what's more important? Kissinjg your stupic=d biceps or showing off your 4,000 pairs of shoes? I would think a kids training camp, visiting deaf children, or any number of those established organizations is far more important than trying to show off Justin Beiber style)...then again it is either hyper-criticism of Russell's hairstyle, Sherman's rant from TWO WEEKS ago, or the latest "Lynch Mob" who is pissed because he didn't give the interview they were hoping for. What is most sad for me is that had this been any other team people would be out in droves supporting rants, non-interviews, and "loving" the newest haircut. These guys don't any of us (or the media) anything and yet no matter what they do they are consistently criticized...been that way for the longest time...we true fans and the team can handle it...I am happy I live here in Seattle and get to see these guys in "real life" and on local networks, etc....it's too bad the rest of the country cant.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SEAHAWKS!!!!!!
P.S.~ Here's the link for Marshawn Lynch's organization...perhaps instead of constantl;y demonizing the guy you would be better suited donating to his cause for children! Sheesh!! fam1stfamilyfoundation.org/

BUT he does have to represent his team and do interviews. that is part of his job. it is in every players contract. if he wants to get up there and act like a thug and show his true side during those interviews then so be it. but he is responsible for doing them.

I am not a professional athlete. I am well known on a local level only. When in public in front of children I most certainly hold myself accountable for presenting a good role model example to the children. EVERY ADULT ON THE PLANET SHOULD HOLD THEIRSELF RESPONSIBLE FOR BEING A GOOD ROLE MODEL TO THE YOUTH OF OUR COUNTRY.

Wiz I once knew a professional football player who wasn't well known and didnt get much playing time. In his contract, he had terms, and one of them was he didnt have to talk if he didnt want to. Its a rare but there are players who don't talk. Lynch has plenty money so its no big deal to him if he gets fined. It happens all the time and this particular guy isn't doing it on a really good team. You think if it was some player on a crappy team like cleveland anyone would be talking about this? I say no way. Agree or disagree, I don't have a problem with him doing it.

Sheesh!! fam1stfamilyfoundation.org/ he doesn't like giving interviews? too bad. its his job. I labeled him as a thug because of what he has done AND BASED on his interviews, not before them. as long as he plays the game you could care less? so all that matters to you when deciding who you root for is how they perform and the vicinity they are too your front door? so if kobe Bryant had been convicted (which he should have been) of rape or O.J. of murder (guilty again), you would have continued to cheer them and root for them if they played for your home team? personal accountability in their personal lived means nothing when deciding who you are a fan of? last time I checked, colin kaepernick wasn't playing this week so that is why he isn't the center of attention. and just because two weeks have gone by, we should forget that interview with Sherman and how he acted? they don't owe us anything? how about their livelihood? who do you think pays their salaries? the fact is, you say you aren't biased, but I don't think you understand what biased means. you want everyone else to look past these things that are happening or the way these guys act. that would be biased. you are asking everyone else to be biased. meanwhile you are coming up with all these reasons why we should when in reality, we shouldn't have to. they are your home team. I get it. you are going to root for them. but to ask everyone else to or to expect others ignore the things they have done is as biased as it gets. unbiased would be exactly what I am. I have bet on and rooted for them all year, as well as Denver. I am now actually rooting for Denver, but I bet on seattle and expect seattle to win. my feelings for either team have no bearing on what I think will happen. that is unbiased.

But it's OK for Jerry Hollendorfer not to talk to the press? Yes! I don't think any sports person is obligated to talk to the press. The press always puts their own spin on sports stories well - everything but especially sports - a Denver writer is more likely to slam a Seattle player!) Some sports personalities love the exposure and the controversy. Some don't, I don't think anyone should judge people based on their relationship with the media.

For the record, there are a certain number of media events during the season that all NFL players are required to attend. It's in their contracts. I'm not sure about the exact wording but here is an article on the NFL website about this and the player in question. As noted in the last sentence, appearing before the media is "part of his job". www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000318657/article/marshawn-lynch-undecided-over-attending-media-dayMarshawn Lynch undecided over attending Media DayBy Dan Hanzus Around the League Writer Marshawn Lynch's reclusive nature with the media already had the Seattle Seahawks running back on thin ice with the NFL as he entered Super Bowl week. The situation might soon escalate. In an exclusive one-on-one with NFL Media columnist Michael Silver, the famously reporter-shy Lynch said he was still deciding whether to attend the mandatory team-interview session at Media Day on Tuesday. "If you're forced to do something, it's not as good as if you choose to do it," Lynch told Silver last week. "So no, I won't have a lot of interesting things to say. When you're forced to do something and you know it, it kind of just takes away from the whole experience of what it could be if (it were) natural. So, I'll probably give forced answers." Lynch was not listed among Seahawks players assigned to a podium for Media Day, which will be held at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., That doesn't guarantee Lynch will be absent, but it's unusual in this setting when the star running back doesn't get the star treatment. Lynch didn't speak with the media for much of the season, receiving a $50,000 fine for his public silence. Lynch appealed, and Ray Anderson, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, ruled to hold the $50,000 in abeyance after Lynch committed to complying with league policy. The shared understanding at the time was that any additional violation would result in the $50,000 being collected, and a minimum fine of $50,000 more being assessed. As you might imagine, skipping the biggest media event of Super Bowl week would not sit well with the folks on Park Avenue. To provide some context, Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora was fined $20,000 for skipping a (non-Media Day) session two years ago. The total cost of a Lynch no-show likely would sky far above that based on the terms of his previous appeal. "Football's just always been hella fun to me, not expressing myself in the media," Lynch told Silver. "I don't do it to get attention; I just do it cause I love that (expletive)." We'll soon find out if Lynch hates the other part of his job enough to take a substantial financial hit.

I agree the press puts their own spin on everything, which is why I don't read 80% of the articles posted in here from drf or any of the other racing sources. but that doesn't mean he doesn't have to do them. that's all part of the pressures that go along with playing in the BIG game. but thanks for bringing another west coast trainer unnecessarily into a football thread to talk poorly about.

"you guys"? im pretty sure you have said before you are an American. you just have extreme wood for Europeans. are you changing your story now?
