I've been to Beulah Park a few dozen times over the years. It's really a quaint little track outside of Columbus Ohio. People are friendly, the horsemen mingle in the "crowd" - it's just a nice overall atmosphere.
But, one has to wonder if this is a classic example of wiz' thinking regarding marginal race tracks.
Today, customarily the high point of a track's racing week, they ran eight races - a total of 39 horses ran, and with a 2-horse entry there were only 38 betting interests. That's less than five per race average. Of the eight races the fields were 7 (6 betting interests), 6, 6, 5, 5, 4, 4, and TWO! Yes, there was a two-horse field.
On-track handle was $2,036 ($254 per race!), and total handle was $110,175.
As nice and enjoyable as the place is, one has to wonder - why bother?

They "bother" because as YOU have posted they are closing and moving to a new location. I laugh at your "shot taking" with your eloquent speeches. When anyone comments about NY having 4,5 Horse races it's considered "bashing" or "bait"
So what would this thread be considered??

I really find it "disturbing" that you follow all of my posts. It's scary! One of the reasons for the post is that wiz, Evelyn, Jon, and I have been having a (civil) discussion about marginal racetracks - which to save, which to allow to disappear, etc. This is one example of possibly allowing a race track to go away. A live handle of $250 per race is about as low as I've ever seen. I doubt if it will get much better when it moves 200 miles away to suburban Youngstown. They're moving from a city with population of close to a million people (Columbus and suburbs) to one of less than 100,000. Unfortunately PNGI hasn't shown much interest in racing other than to acquire casino licenses.
