Aqueduct, Turfway, Charles Town cancel Friday because of cold DRF
Due to the extreme cold blanketing the eastern U.S., Aqueduct, Turfway Park, and Charles Town have canceled racing on Friday.
At Aqueduct, it is the third full card of racing canceled this winter. A fourth card lost its final eight races when the jockeys refused to ride due to fog.
Friday’s forecast in New York called for a high temperature of 16 degrees with wind chills near zero, which actually was a little warmer than Thursday, when wind chills were below zero throughout the day.
Aqueduct and Belmont Park were to be open for simulcasting Friday. Live racing is expected to resume Saturday, when temperatures are forecast to be in the low to middle 30s but with a possible two inches of snow.
Turfway Park in Florence, Ky., also remained open for simulcasting, though live music during the evening was canceled.
The cancellation is the first of the current winter/spring meet at Turfway, which began Jan. 1 following the December Holiday meet.
The Saturday forecast for the Florence area is for 1-2 inches of snow, with winds in excess of 20 miles per hour and highs in the mid-20s.

AQU could have run today. I have been out all day and it's not as bad as they make it out. I have been at AQU when they ran in colder weather. The wind was not a factor. The casino money is having an adverse effect on the decision making process.
