TURF RACING HASN'T BEEN A PRIORITY IN AMERICA FOR A VERY LONG TIME, SO IT COULD BE THAT CDI JUST GAVE UP ON THE TURF COURSE, DEMAND DICTATES ALL, AND THE DEMAND IS ON DIRT RACING IN AMERICA.

54% of the races carded at Belmont Park and Saratoga in 2013 were turf races, 48% of them were run on the turf.

So Key, let me get this straight. Americans don't give a hoot about turf racing? How come a track like Sam Houston that has a very good turf course per horsemen/riders has lousy purse money but maintains its lawn? It tells me that they care. The weather in Houston is very similar to here. Difference is the city of houston is above sea level and 80% of new orleans is not. The writer or the article is correct about the drainage problem. What lies underneath is the problem. CDI's only concern is getting fat envelopes full of cash from the slot machines to build more high dollar rooms that are used once a year.

I DONT FOLLOW RACING IN TEXAS LET ALONE AT SAM HOUSTON BUT IF WHAT YOU SAID IS TRUE THEN OF COURSE THEY CARE ABOUT TURF RACING, THEY HAVE TO DRAW ALL THE HORSES THEY CAN TO FILL RACES FOR THE SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY THEY RUN FOR

Does this mean none of the "recommendations" from this old thread were implemented? Specifically the DRF article from 06/25/20: Fair Grounds tells of turf course measures By Mary Rampellini Fair Grounds on Tuesday began seeding its turf course with a tougher strain of Bermuda grass in an effort to rebuild the surface that had difficulty drying out during a particularly wet New Orleans meet that ended March 31. The process is part of a restoration plan recommended by surface expert Mick Peterson, who has been assessing the local course, said Eric Halstrom, vice president and general manager of Fair Grounds............... I SAW 2YO RACES ON THE TURF IN NY AND THAT IS RARE IN AMERICA. BELMONT AND SARATOGA ARE TWO OF AMERICAS OLDEST RACE TRACKS AND THEY ALSO HOST PRESTIGIOUS TURF RACES BUT THEY ALONE CANT MAKE UP FOR THE LACK OF TURF RACING IN AMERICA IN RECENT YEARS

I remember the big hoopla last year that they were going to reconstruct the turf course at Fair Grounds to resolve all the issues they've had over the last few years. I guess they weren't successful?

Mark Casse, Josie Carrol, and Malcom Pierce have been bringing turf horses from Woodbine to the Fair Grounds for the winter for years. At the rate the turf races at the Fair Grounds are being moved to the main track I don't see Cassie, Carrol, and Pierce continuing to bring these horese to the Fair Grounds. They could just as easily ship to Gulfstream or Tampa where the turf courses are better kept. Small fields are a death sentence to the handle and races being taken off the turf create small fields.
