In the last couple of years Dashawn Parker has headed down to Tampa Bay Downs to ride during the Mountaineer off-season.
Looks like this year he decided to ride at Sam Houston Race Park, and at least for the first few days he's riding for Steve Assmussen. If Parker is going to be Assmussen's go-to-rider, they could wind up being the top trainer/jockey combination this season at SHRP.
Trainer Eric Reed, also from Mountaineer, seems to have settled at SHRP too. He and Parker just won their first races easily in the 3rd (albeit at 2-5!)

Interesting. Guess the winter weather at Mntr has caused some exits.

The last few years Mountaineer closed at the end of December and reopened at the beginning of March. Parker has previously gone to Tampa Bay Downs, but just didn't seem to get untracked down there, returning to Mountaineer when they reopened. But with Sam Houston's shorter meet (through March 17), I guess he'll stay the entire meeting, giving him a better chance of getting some decent mounts.
Parker had two mounts yesterday and two today (Tuesday), all for Asmussen.

THIS IS WHAT PARKER HAS BEEN MISSING HIS WHOLE CAREER. WHILE HE WAS TOP DOG AT MOUNTAINEER FOR LIKE THE PAST 16 YEARS HE HAS NEVER HAD AN INCENTIVE TO LEAVE, AS GEORGE SAID HE STARTED TO VENTURE TO TAMPA TWO YEARS AGO BUT HE SOON GREW TIRED OF THAT, NOW THAT HE IS AT SAM HOUSTON WITH ASSMUSSEN HE WILL RIDE SOME QUALITY STOCK.

For 1 night? If Deshawn wants to ride any asmussen horses, he should go up to oaklawn and get mounts taken away from Arroyo. That rider is awful and asmussen gives him plenty rides. After opening day, norberto should have packed up and went to turfway. He rode some nice horses and pissed away the oppurtunities. Godawful display of riding that day

So far this season (only four days, though) Parker has only ridden for Eric Reed and Asmussen. Friday he has two mounts for each, and Saturday three for Asmussen, one each for Reed and Bobby Joe Nixon.
I don't think he's ever ridden for Asmussen in the past, so maybe Asmussen is trying him out with his second, ahem third (?) string down at Sam Houston?
