I think that's great and may they have 10,000+ every day However, handle was down 2% from last year and 19.5% from the last time SA's opening was on a Thursday. That's not good news.
Pres - At the top of what? Was that another "bait" post? I truly hope members ignore it.
All racing fans sbould want all tracks to do well! All racing fans are sad Hollywood closed. No on was happy to see that happen. We should be united to see racing continue, not divisive.

Evelyn:
Quite simple at the TOP of the daily attendance. NO track currently running puts the numbers up that Santa Anita does. That's a FACT. Wiz puts a positive thread up and you post negative handle numbers, now who REALLY put out some "bait" for argument?

Thread re-opened. Some posts moved to Word Wars. Fine to discuss the topic. Off topic, personalized posts should go on the other thread.
Pres - Yes - attendance opening day a FACT. Also a FACT about the handle. Nothing negative - that's your spin. You guys are always talking about how important $ is but you back off when it suits your purpose. In the winter months I believe SA, and GS usually have the best attendance. Your post said "CA is racing at the top" which doesn't mean attendance to most people. Perhaps it needed clarification.
I'd like to see every track put 10,000+ in the stands every day and 20,000+ on Saturdays and non-special" days. Not gonna happen.

To be honest and fair, when I signed on this morning and saw that the thread was closed, I was surprised. I didn't think anything posted at the time was bad at all. Yes, yesterday Santa Anita was indeed at the top for it's attendance and handle, although the handle was pretty low considering the number of people there.
With all due respect to everyone, I thought closing the thread at the time may have been an over reaction (and I noted so in a PM to Pete)
On the other hand, those numbers were from yesterday. Someone posted a thread the other day to the effect of "what a difference a day makes". Unfortunately today's numbers were pretty grim - down double digits from last year's first Friday for attendance, on-track handle, in-state handle, and out-of-state handle. Let's hope things pick up again over the weekend.

they had a bad card today. small fields and bad races. but that can be expected on a Friday afternoon. with better cards this weekend the numbers will go back up.

The card today was horrible, but I avoided that to not look like I was bashing.
Four of today's eight races were maiden races - two of them only 5 horse fields. Two other races had only five horses, too. Of the four non-maiden races, the fields were 5, 5, 7, and 7!
I haven't looked at entries for the weekend, hopefully they're better. Maybe the big card for opening day sucked away some of the horses that could have been entered today?

And this doesn't apply to the Big A when it's snowing? Yet, defenders of NY racing, like me!, are accused of bias! We're all baised towards our home tracks!

it doesn't snow here ev. one less problem to deal with or overcome. I just admitted they had a bad card, something you cant seem to do when someone points out a card filled with 5 horse fields, even in GRADE 1 races, back there.
