Wow..........Smart but sad. how long before there's no Calder?
Calder Forced to Cancel the La Prevoyante Handicap by Calder Publicity
Calder Casino & Race Course announced that it will be cancelling the Grade III La Prevoyante Handicap from its race card on Saturday, December 28.
"As we approach the conclusion of the Tropical Meet, projected purse revenues have to line up with purses to be paid," said Vice President and General Manager of Racing John Marshall. "In the case of the La Prevoyante, the race did not fill to the level necessary to offer a positive value proposition to Calder purses. If more horses would have been entered into the La Prevoyante as we had hoped, the projections for wagering activity would have painted a far better picture. This was a business decision based entirely on economics."
The Grade III W.L. McKnight Handicap at a mile and a half on the turf for 3-year-olds drew a field of 11 entries for Saturday.
Sunday, December 29 marks the last day of the 2013 Tropical Meet, and all carryover wagers at Calder, including the Pick 5 and Pick 6, must be paid out in full.
The 2014 Calder Meet begins Friday, January 3 and continues every Friday through Sunday with a first race post time of 12:30 p.m. .

The only positive I get out of this is a Fri-Sun racing schedule. I think every Track in the US should just run 3 days a week. Safer for the Horses also. In this case, less is better. That of course is just my opinion.

completely agree. these tracks need to start scheduling their racing days accordingly so that there is action at least 5 or 6 days a week but each only races 3 or 4. and NO MORE BIG RACES COMPETING WITH EACH OTHER! its stupid. I have been saying this for quite a while. last year when they scheduled the sword dancer and Arlington million on the same day was ridiculous.

I sure wish Gulfstream Park and Calder would resolve their differences. As it is, they're both being damaged, and the southern Florida horsemen are caught in the middle.

GS doesn't appear to be suffering at all.

Gulfstream may be winning the battle, but in the long run they're losing (as is Calder) the war.
I'm rooting for Hialeah to come from behind and smoke both of them! They now have a casino, and it's only a matter of time before they're back in the thoroughbred game. Good for Brunetti - he's bucking the corporate CDI and Magna, and may wind up winning.

couldn't agree more jon. they are not and will not suffer. I said from the start last year when I was going to try and play the gs meet that this was obvious. calder is dead, soon to follow Hollywood.
