among others. that adds to his list as I said. laugh at the simpsons if you want, but it has been on tv for over 20 years and is one of the most successful programs of all time. durkin is done. he even said it himself when he stopped doing the tc races. HE said it. he didn't have the passion or the voice to do it anymore. but I guess that doesn't mean anything either, right georgie? even when others ADMIT to something, you seem to not be able to accept it or acknowledge that it is true......... Note: Please leave politics off racing threadsHuh???

Vic:
Was on the TVG Forum and interacted with us all. Goofintheroof was his name. I enjoy his calls. Tom Durkin WAS a very good race announcer, but I think Father Time has caught up with him

I think Tom is still good when he's relaxed. Certainly better than John Imbriale. Well - Cuomo could step in and appoint a new race caller if he deems that necessary.

John Imbriale is just a quarter-step ahead of Mike Battaglia. But to his credit, when I lived in SW Ohio 30+ years ago, Battaglia was the caller at River Downs and Latonia (now Turfway Park) and he was pretty good. Age gets to all of us.

first off someone edited my post because I did NOT say leave politics off the racing board. I made a comparison, and a very sensible one at that. if others on here don't like the truth then that's on them.
secondly, im not talking about what he has done in the past. in fact I have said in other threads he wasn't always bad. but he is now. period. and that's my opinion. and everytime you east coasters want to compare him to or bash denman, I will just laugh. IT JUST GOES TO SHOW WHAT I HAVE SAID FOR MONTHS IS TRUE...............

when hes relaxed? so because hes a headcase, that makes it ok for him to be a shiitty announcer? how about throwing in the fact that hes an alcoholic also? should we give him the key to the city for that?

No Wiz - you did not say that. I did. I deleted your political reference It's funny how you claim it's bashing the West. I wouldnt like Denman's calls if he were in the East. Also, there's juist as much East bashing - if you want to look at it that way. I hate the East/West stuff. A drunk? Really? Everyone is sometimes a "head case". But yep - your opinion, albeit a West biased one So - Besides Collmus, who are the younger, good announcers? Who is a possible replacement for the BC?

I like Bill Downes, he's the Announcer at Indiana Downs and the soon to close Beulah Park. Mark Johnson form Churchill Downs is another crappy caller IMO. About Tom Durkin and his drinking, well it's no secret. But I still think his best call ever was Arrrrrrrrrr. We just happened to be at the track that day. Everytime I think about it I still smile. John Imbriale to me is fine. When you run into at Belmont he always stops and says hello.

Tony Calo at Finger Lakes maybe the best at picking up hosres making moves into contention before it seen on the TV screen. He also has some good in race lines.

rodman gets no respect - good clear voice - excellent correct calls - funny when appropriate - but my very favorite and i truly hope the bc considers him (he does have an int'l accent lol) is peter berry - always on the money lt - beulah guy is pretty good - imbriale is very nice - not big on his calls but.......... (hey dizzy wizzy - at least tom came out of the closet - has your boy had the guts to do that? ) )

cait, Rodman's pretty good (Dave that is, not Dennis!!!!) - his calls are clear and precise, with very few if any catch-phrases. If I have any issue with his calls, it's that he repeats over and over again the leader's name toward the end of a race.
I'm with you though, Peter Berry is one of the best these days and, even though he does have some phrases, they're all pretty clever and not over used.

TO DO WHAT CAIT? ADMIT WHAT EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS? USE IT AS AN EXCUSE AS TO WHY HE CANT CUT THE MUSTARD ANYMORE AND LOOK FOR SYMPATHY FROM OTHERS? WE'LL LEAVCE THAT UP TO MR. BURPIN, ER, I MEAN DURKIN.
