Northern KY ‘Biggest Loser’ in State’s Casino Debate Paulick Report For close to six years, the Kentucky General Assembly has argued whether or not to allow expanded gambling in the state. Some groups want separate, stand-alone casinos; others want slots at racetracks; while other do not want to see any form of casinos built in the Commonwealth. In the meantime, just to the north, expanded gambling “has exploded”, as the number of casinos and racinos in both Ohio and Indiana have doubled since 2007. According to a report at Cincinnati.com, even if the Kentucky legislature is able to get a measure on the ballot in 2014, it maybe too late for Northern Kentucky, and in particular, Turfway Park. “I think we’re late getting to the game. Ohio has done a great job of moving forward,” Rep. Dennis Keene, chairman of the House committee that will consider the new legislation, said in the article. “I still think there’s room for us at the table because a large number of people from Kentucky gamble over there.” “Now, are we going to be as successful as Ohio? If Kentucky gets engaged, we’re going to have to do a lot of catchup to get competitive,” Keene added. “But that’s the nature of any business.” Full article (it's long!) nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20131125/NEWS0103/311250014/As-state-mulls-bet-casinos-NKY-already-biggest-loser?odyssey=mod|newswell|img|FRONTPAGE|p&nclick_check=1
