Paulick Report: Maryland racing now stable, but must take steps to thrive Racing in Maryland finally has some stability after an agreement was reached in December between the Maryland Jockey Club and horsemen that ensures 100 days of racing per year and a subsidy of the tracks by horsemen. However, as Chris Korman of the Baltimore Sun writes, "three significant challenges remain - updating the facilities, drawing fans, and rebuilding the stock of Maryland-bred horses." "We've got to bring people in whenever we can, and we've got to make racing easier to understand and appreciate," Tom Chuckas, President of the Maryland Jockey Club said. We've been to Pimlico several times. There's so much history there and you can see where it was once a major player. Really hope they spend some $ to restore it - more than just a coat of paint LOL
