100 yds? That's not much of a race LOL Are there many of these?
The meet’s shortest stakes race produced one of the season’s biggest longshot winners in a stakes event after the filly Jewel First Cat defeated nine rivals to win the 100-yard The Blink Of An Eye Handicap at odds of 13-1 on Saturday at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by Eduardo Nicasio for trainer Paul Jones, Jewel First Cat was bumped at the start, but still had enough quickness to win the dash by a head over 6-5 favorite Chicks Man Dashin in a time of :06.581. Her winning time was only 7/100ths of a second away from tying the stakes record of :06.514 shared by Juno Dat Royal Bug and Go Love A Lark Go. Owned by Splenda LLC, Jewel First Cat SA was picking up her second win in eight starts this season. The filly by First Down Dash came into this race after running third in a trial to the PCQHRA Breeders Derby and earlier this season she finished fourth to Los Alamitos Super Derby finalist Scoop of Sunshine in the Governor’s Cup Derby. Jewel First Cat SA earned $8,800 of the $16,000 purse offered in The Blink Of An Eye Handicap. A winner of four of 16 starts, the daughter of the stakes winning mare Gottobes Cat has earned $38,892 in her career. Bred by late Gianna Franco Samaja, Jewels First Cat SA has finished in the money seven of 16 lifetime starts.
Owned by J. Guadalupe Casillas Gonzalez, Chicks Man Dashin was fourth at the start before accelerating quickly to finish in second place. His effort earned the son of Country Chicks Man $3,600 while giving him his sixth top two finish in his nine-race career. Bred by Sunflower Supply Company, Chicks Man Dashin came into this race having won four out of his last five starts. Jose Moreno saddled the sorrel gelding, which was ridden by Raul Valenzuela.
Pink Ribbon Stakes winner Shakeemdontbreakem finished third for owner Jakita Investments LLC and trainer Cody Joiner. Shake Wide Open, Whata Corona Runner, Da Moss, Ronsepi, Lethal Cartel and Corona Cade completed the field. Splendiferous Diva was scratched.
