Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course will have 146 days of racing in 2014, including the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, on May 17. It’s the same number that has been scheduled the last four years.
The Maryland Racing Commission approved the agreement between the Maryland Jockey Club, Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and Maryland Horse Breeders Association at its monthly meeting this afternoon at Laurel Park.
The 2014 winter meeting will begin Jan. 1, a Wednesday, at Laurel Park and include 46 live racing days over an 13-week period with live racing taking place on a Thursday through Saturday schedule. Wednesday racing will be added in late February for the balance of the meet.
Racing shifts to Pimlico for the spring meeting, which will begin Apr. 3, a Thursday, and run through June 7, Belmont Stakes day. The 35 days of racing will feature the 139th running of the Preakness.
After a break that includes racing during the State Fair in Timonium, live racing will return on Sept. 5 at Laurel Park for a 65-day fall meeting.
The 2013 racing season ends Dec. 31.
