Back on Topic:
I would like to refute and give MY opinion on a few of the numbers that were posted in this thread.
1. Beholder won more money and that's with being mainly in California. Could you imagine if she raced in New York with those slot enhanced purses. She probably would have earned $ 3,000,000
2. Isn't Saratoga Princess's "home" track also? Since she's based in NY and only Saratoga was open at he time
3. I'm quite sure Princess didn't walk out to the Breeders Cup. So by her traveling 3,000 miles shouldn't have been that difficult. Her connections I am sure had the best of everything for her on the flight. Probably a chef, masseuse,In flight movies, maybe even a mani-pedi also.
4. Yes Princess beat Beholder at Churchill Downs, but with what transpired before the race Beholders race was much better. If you recall she dumped Garrett Gomez during the loading process and still managed to run a huge 2nd.
5. Beholder didn't saunter over either, she just put her front foot on the speedway and coasted over from her Barn.
6. I'm not quite sure why winning in a certain State is so important. Are the Horses running for office and need electoral votes to win an award ?
I didn't realize how much fun it is to change the words to state my case. Maybe if I practice this more often I could become a politician. Now all I have to do is make sure my SUBJECT line is exactly worded correctly.

If Saratoga is to be considered Princess' home track because only it was open at the time, then Del Mar has to be considered Beholder's home track because only Del Mar was open at the time. If one believes that, then 100% of Beholder's wins were on her home track and only 60% of Princess' were.
I don't agree with that. For me - 80% of Beholders wins were on her home track, 20% for Princess. i think that's a huge stat.
The big knock on Zenyatta was that she "stayed home". Why doesn't that thinking apply here?
IMO Travel is also a huge factor - especially a 3,000 mile plane trip for a 3 yr old filly. The climate change, totally new surropundings, a completely new experience. The same could be said for Beholder in the Oaks.
I have thrown out all of Fridays front running results as the bias was so strong. That applies not only to Beholder but Goldencents et al.
Deduct the BC winnings and $ earned is about the same. No factor.
As for the Oaks - Gomez was thrown in the post parade. Not unusual for 3 yr old fillies in front of 100,000+ fans. More importantly, she was calm when loaded into the gate and get a great break and good position. On the other hand, Princess got a horrible start being involved in the banging around when the 9 came over on the field (Julia got the worst of it). With both Julia and Princess badly compromised, Beholder had everything her own way in the race. That's much more significant to me. (I was rooting for Julia BTW) IMO it shows that Princess was definitely the best horse in that race on that day. With a clean break for all, Julia and Princess fight it out IMO.
So, if Princess had stayed home, would Beholder be the 3 yr old filly champ? Not a chance IMO

BStock - Agree. Once they allowed the likes of Todd Shrupp to vote.................enough said! This is something that has become an increasing problem in my opinion. I have worked in TB racing since I was 17 years old so I wont poo poo People like Shrupps contributions with that being said, People like him don't know anything about racing, He may have worked at tracks all around the country and have seen thousands of races but that doesn't qualify him to vote. Put it this way I'm a big fan of Boxing I follow it and have seen hundreds of fights in my life, that doesn't qualify me to vote for fighter of the year. The other day Matt and the dark Haired fellow with the comb over had an on air argument. Matt said that WD had the HOTY title locked up, the other guy asked why ? and Matt said WD did enough, Matt also followed up by saying, He likes horses with LONE SPEED. WTF ? THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GIVEN AN ECLIPSE VOTE ? REALLY ? REALLY ?
