There were two breakdowns yesterday, too (Centralinteligence and the Arabian winner So Big Is Better), both will never race again. And Points Offthebench was euthanized after a main track workout earlier this week.

Thanks. Other than the fact that Velazquez is injured (no word on how badly yet), I think getting Lezcano is a step up on the turf.

I am not going to lay all the blame on the track but it does seem to happen more and more with them trying to make a drag strip out of them instead of a fair track. I will also not back off even my home track of Churchill, who has the track FAST for the two days in May(the Derby being the faster of the two) but is is far from the S.A. highway that they have out there. I guess they must be rationing water out in CA.

This is such a tough business. For those of you don't like Baffert (and I also have been critical sometimes) his interview just showed the emotion of losing a filly. So I'm glad he won with New Year's Day. It's wonderful that the Wests won also as they have been great racing supporters. Oh - Mary just said it's their anniversary! That's very cool!

Very true Ev! Not matter what you think of any particular trainer, it is heartbreaking when these tragedies occur and you can't help but feel for all involved, but unfortunately it's just a fact of life in this sport. RIP Secret Compass
