I was thinkng about this over the weekend.
One thing I love about hockey players is that they stay in shape during the off season. What other major sport has their training camps open and then are playing pre-season games three days later and then regular season games only 19 days after that? Baseball players are still working off their beer guts after 22 days!
Can't wait, I think it's going to be a very competitive season, even the Islanders look like they'll be contending for a playoff spot.

George, what exactly does contending for a playoff spot mean? isn't hockey the sport where 80% of the teams make the playoffs? not much of a goal if you ask me.

There are now 30 teams, 16 make the playoffs. In baseball there are 30 teams and 10 now make the playoffs (not much better) The NBA is the same as the NHL, 30 teams, 16 make the playoffs. In the NFL, there are 32 teams with 12 making the playoffs. Don't forget, this year there will be 49 Breeders' Cup races spread over seven days.

Gimme college football over anything. Its the only sport where every game matters. One thing about hocket that I do like is the playoffs are perhaps the most difficult to go through. An 8th seed can win the cup.

Training camps opened yesterday. First three pre-season games are scheduled for Saturday night. Could you imagine that with baseball or football players? Hockey players are not primadonnas - they love the game and stay in shape all summer - one of the things I love about the game.

Great seeing NHL scores (even if they're pre-season) at the bottom of the ESPN screen!
Regular season starts two weeks from tonight.

They could very well win it again - they have the players to do it. Unfortunately it takes a lot of luck and breaks to win the Stanley Cup these days, too. Look at Boston 3 cups back.
