Lukas to have division at Laurel Park By David Grening DRF
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas said he will have a division at Laurel Park this fall in addition to Churchill Downs.
Lukas, the trainer of Travers Stakes winner Will Take Charge, said he will send 15 to 20 horses to Laurel, a division that will then go to Oaklawn Park at the end of the year.
“They run all the way to Dec. 28, and the horses can go to Hot Springs,” Lukas said. “It looks like a good option. We’ll send some nice horses in there.”
Lukas said he most likely would ship Will Take Charge to Churchill before bringing him back east for the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx on Sept. 21.

Lukas does fairly well at oaklawn. He brought a few down to FG and picked up some stew. It must count for something

He actually has higher earnings so far this year than any year back to 2005, and probably will have his best year in about 15 years. He's still running at about a 10% win rate, though.

AND ITS ALL COME FROM 2 HORSES. EVERY HORSE IN HIS BARN, EVEN THE ONES WHO CANT RUN A STEP AND HAVE NEVER SHOWN ANY PROMISE UNDER HIS TUTELAGE, COST AN ARM AND A LEG, AND I BET EVEN WITH THOSE 2 BIG EARNERS, HIS ROI ON TOTAL STARTERS SUCKS. HE HAS 1 WIN AT THE SARATOGA MEET OTHER THEN WTC, AND THATWAS BY SOME 2 YEAR OLD RUNNING MONDAY IN THE HOPEFUL I BELIEVE. HE NEEDS TO TAKE A STRING DOWN TO TIMONIUM WHERE HE MIGHT BE COMPETITIVE.

Wiz - I don't think you're correct. I think your dislike of him clouds everything! I think he has chnaged from his youth, as many of us do! We realize life's short and we need to relax a little.

RG, I don't like him. but even that has nothing to do with the numbers and facts.he hasn't been relevant for years despite the fact that he still gets more high priced gorses then 90% of the trainers out there. he doesn't even bother to look at a horse unless it cost a couple hundred thousand at auction. his win percentages are awful. outside of oxbow and wtc, he has won one race out of his last 50 or 60 at major meets. look at today at Saratoga. in the forego, as soon as that horse entered his barn, it gets beat 30 lengths!! never ran a bad race in its life for baffert, yet goes to lukas and he cant run a step.
I cant wait to see them actually take wtc down for this buzzer thing, even though I doubt its true or will happen because guillot is an even bigger ass himself. and even ox and charge between them, have competed in every race under the sun and only have one other substantial win for the year outside of those two races. its not like they have been domint over anyone either.he has already broke down oxbow by over racing him, which is what he is famous for. im sure wtc is next.

FTR
Lukas 2013 Statistics: •Starts: 199 •Firsts: 20 •Seconds: 21 •Thirds: 20 •Earnings: $3,846,311 •Avg. Earnings Per Start: $19,328
Judging any horse by today's track makes no sense. Also believe Baffert has more high priced horses. The question is will Baffert be riding and training at 77?

I'll tell you what jon you find the stats and I guarantee that bafferts return purses wise to purchase price ratio is at least twice what Lukas's is. along with his win percentage. baffert may have more high priced horses but that would be because he probably has 3-4x as many total horses. would als be willing to bet you that the average price that lukas pays for every horse he buys at auction is twice what bobs is. I would bet my life on these numbers and am sure I am playing it safe with these estimates. as far as whether he is still doing it at 77........ who cares? I would hope not. maybe by that age he will be retired and watching bodes kids in the winners circle with their dad, or out taking them to ball games and such. does lukas really deserve kudos for the fact that at 77 he still has to feed his ego by being in the spotlight and has nothing else to do with his time? why isn't he living closer to jeff and enjoying his grandkids and possibly their kids?

Am ending my part in this debate as I'm not really a Lukas fan nor a Baffert fan. Like Baffert less though because I think of the 2, Lukas has more horsemanship. Also think Baffert would not be in the top 5 on the East coast. And hell yes - think it's great a 77 yr old not only is still in the game, but out there early every morning. Rumor has it Baffert rarely shows up early.

IM NOT SAYING ITS NOT GOOD THAT HE CAN STILL DO IT AT 77. ALL IM SAYING IS IF BAFFERT ISNT, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? THAT HE IS SOMEHOW A FAILURE BECUSE HE HAS OTHER THINGS HE WANTS TO DO? THAT HOW YOU MAKE IT SOUND.
IF YOU REALLY THINK LUKAS HAS MORE HORSEMANSHIP THEN YOU REALLY HAVE SPENT TO MUCH TIME READING PRESS CLIPPINGS AND OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS. LUKAS HAS NEVER AND NEVER WIIL BE A TRAINER. HES A PR MAN AND A GOOD JUDGE OF HORSES. THATS ALL HE EVER WAS.
