Johnny Football Readies for 2013 Debut – At Saratoga on Saturday Paulick Report
College football fans have been eagerly anticipating this weekend, as the 2013 season kicks off around the country. One debut that is generating plenty of excitement is that of Texas A & M’s star quarterback, Johnny Manziel, the Heisman Trophy winner. Texas A & M will start their season at home on Saturday against Rice.
About an hour before Manziel, who is nicknamed ‘Johnny Football’, takes the field, his 2-year-old Thoroughbred namesake will make his career debut at Saratoga.
The equine Johnny Football is a son of freshman sire Colonel John, and is owned by Texas native, Bill Casner. The colt, who trained by Eoin Harty, was purchased by Casner’s wife, Sue, at the 2011 Keeneland November sale. Johnny Football is scheduled to run in the second race, a maiden race at 1 1/16 miles on the turf.
Hopefully, Johnny Football – both the horse and the human – will be winners on Saturday.
