The runner-up was a $17,500 claimer at Hawthorne before he shipped out to California.
THE RUNNER UP WHERE GEORGE? I DONT HAVE PP'S IN FRONT OF ME, BUT IM PRETTY SURE KETTLE CORN HAS BEEN HERE HIS WHOLE LIFE.
We already know Dude can finish last in the Classic and they'll still vote for him LOL
JUST LIKE WE ALREADY KNOW HE CAN FINISH FIRST AND THE EAST COAST BIASED POSTERS ON HERE WILL VOTE AGAINST HIM.

Kettle Corn lost his first race (mdn clm) at Hoosier, lost again at Hawthorne, then broke his maiden at Hawthorne for $15,000 price.
Won two more claiming races in Chicago (Hawthorne and Arlington), lost an allowance at Arlington then shipped to Del Mar.
He really hasn't done much in two years, but his connections are smart cleaning up place and show money in short field stakes out there:
Year Starts Firsts Seconds Thirds Earnings
2013 5 1 3 0 $459,000 2012 8 1 2 4 $222,220 2011 10 6 1 1 $171,366 2010 2 0 0 0 $525

The operative word in George's post is "was". He won the G2 San Diego Hcp beating Paynter, Chief Havoc and Liaison. Horses do improve. I'm not a fan necessarily but let's be fair.

Hey!!! No knocking Lava Man! LOL! The GREATEST claimer of ALL TIME! He wasn't always a winner but he was a warrior and he is a damn neat horse in his own right. He deserves a little respect anyway.....then again I am biased...I LOVE that horse...he is a MUST visit everytime I am in SoCal and I swear he remembers me now I have been there so many times to see him. He is still tough, still the boss around the barn yet sweet as pie when there are carrots involved! LOL! Neat horse! The best ever? Certainly not but a damn neat horse and a pretty good one in his day too.

I never thought much of kettle corn either, but what does it matter where he started and what he did 4 years ago? fact is he has proven he is the second best horse on dirt in ca. right now, and under the right circumstances (a fair pace), he could beat the best.
