Jockey Ferrer Taken to Hospital After Spill
Jockey Jose Ferrer was taken to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J., after being unseated by No Veggies at the top of the stretch in the final race Aug. 24 at Monmouth Park.
"He was complaining of shortness of breath," said Dr. Angelo Chinnici, medical director for the racetrack. "He had multiple soft tissue injuries and a possible concussion. He was taken to Monmouth Medical for observation and evaluation via X-ray."
Ferrer and No Veggies had just made the lead in the $7,500 claiming race at one mile and 70 yards at the top of the stretch when she broke down, unseating the rider. The 4-year-old filly was euthanized on the racetrack
Jockey Maysonett Sent to Hospital after Fall
Jockey Francisco Maysonett was taken to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J. after being unseated during the running of the fifth race at Monmouth Park Aug. 24.
"It's a probable mild concussion," said Dr. Angelo Chinnici, medical director for the racetrack. "He had a transitory loss of consciousness and a few chipped teeth. I sent him over for further evaluation, but I anticipate a quick recovery."
Maysonett, aboard Our Corn in the maiden claiming event at 1 1/16 miles on turf, was between horses nearing the far turn when his mount clipped heels and stumbled, unseating the jockey. Going into Saturday's card, Maysonett had ridden seven winners from 126 starts at the meet.
