‘Saratoga of the Midwest’: The Arlington Experience
Paulick Report
Some racetrackers like to call Arlington Park in the suburbs of Chicago, the Saratoga of the Midwest. While the two tracks are very different in terms of age, they do share a fun atmosphere appealing to families and people of all ages. In addition to its renowned turf course, Arlington Park is also known for its clean environment and unique attractions that bring in casual fans.
The Paulick Report’s Scott Jagow and Natalie Voss spent several days at Arlington for the International Festival of Racing, and they provide a taste of what Arlington Park is all about – on an average day and during the biggest day of the year.

Beulah twins "expanded" and the track shrunk. HAH! Yeah, those twins are getting older. But Beulah was a really nice, quaint track at one time, but I'm partial to old-time tracks. Unfortunately with the slots in Ohio now they're building a brand new, probably not racing oriented, track across town and tearing down the old Beulah Park. When I lived in Ohio, I really liked the feel of Beulah, and Jim Dolan was the announcer there during the day and did Scioto Downs at night before he went to Waterford Park (Mountaineer) He started out doing doubles at Freehold and Yonkers, too. Things will never be the same in Ohio, but at least the "tracks" will survive with slot machines.
