Arapahoe Park: No Spin clearly best in Classic By Mary Rampellini DRF
No Spin was always prominent for a 2 3/4-length win over Treacherous in the $100,000 Arapahoe Park Classic on Sunday. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to No It Ain’t in third.
The Classic, a 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds and up, was doubled in value last month due to an increase in handle at Arapahoe, the Aurora, Colo., track that closes out its season next weekend.
No Spin ($17.80) followed Tulsa Te through an opening quarter in 22.12 seconds, then overtook that rival through a half-mile in 46.17. No Spin took the field through six furlongs in 1:11.17 and a mile in 1:36.74 before going on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:50.48.
Kelly Bridges rode the winner for trainer Kerry Kemper.
No Spin invaded from Prairie Meadows, where he won a $15,000 conditioned claimer in May and was second in a $25,000 optional claimer in his start preceding the Classic.
No Spin is owned by Black Gold Racing. He earned $60,000 for Sunday’s win, his fourth from 21 starts. His career earnings stand at $226,385. No Spin is a 4-year-old son of Johannesburg and was bred in Kentucky by Waterville Lake Stables.
