Delaware Stewards Give Roberson Two-Year Ban for Needles Paulick Report
Trainer Don Roberson has been suspended two years by Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission stewards following a hearing on Tuesday. Roberson was also fined $2,500, according to the ruling issued on Thursday by stewards Jack Houghton Jr., Fritz Burkhardt, and Dennis Lima.
Roberson, 71, was found to be in possession of hypodermic needles, syringes, and injectable medications during a barn search by racing commission inspectors on July 13 at Delaware Park. Roberson is also being charged for the $1,500 for the cost of testing the confiscated items. Stewards did not indicate what medications were involved.
Roberson, who was represented by attorney Alan Pincus at the hearing, admitted to possession of the prohibited items. His suspension begins today (Aug. 10, 2013) and runs through Monday, Aug. 10, 2015.
The case has been referred to the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission for “further consideration and action if deemed appropriate by the commission.”
Roberson has run horses this year at Oaklawn Park, Prairie Meadows, Delaware Park, Colonial Downs, and Penn National. He has a career record of 1,190 wins from 8,575 starts.

Amazing, this year he has 8 wins in 94 starts. Wonder if he would have won even one race if he didn't use the needles?
