McGaughey moved by Parcells' Hall of Fame induction speech
Trainer Shug McGaughey on Sunday said Kentucky Derby winner Orb remains on target for the Grade 1, $1 million Travers on August 24. On Saturday, Orb breezed five furlongs in a bullet 1:00 on the dirt at the Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland.
"He breezed great at Fair Hill yesterday. Everything is a 'go,'" McGaughey said. "Everything was great a Fair Hill yesterday, and he came out of it good."
McGaughey, however, was not in Maryland on Saturday. Instead, he was one of Bill Parcells' guests at the Pro Football Hall of Fame's induction ceremony in Canton, Ohio. Parcells, who won a pair of Super Bowls as head coach of the New York Giants, is friends with both McGaughey, himself a member of the horse racing Hall of Fame, and trainer Gary Sciacca, who was also at the ceremony.
"It's one of the most exciting and impressive things I've ever gone to," McGaughey said. "To see all of those great players and coaches -- not only those who were inducted yesterday -- was an absolute thrill."
McGaughey proceeded to list the prominent players and coaches he saw in the crowd.
"John Lynch is sitting here, Larry Brooks is sitting there," McGaughey said. "(Vinny) Testaverde is behind is. Brad Culpepper was one seat over. His wife was sitting next to (my wife) Allison.
"Sean Payton was right down there. (Bill) Belichick was wandering around with all of the other great players. Brad Johnson, who was the quarterback in Tampa Bay when they won the Super Bowl. It was an incredible, incredible night."
McGaughey was also impressed with Parcells' speech.
"His speech was every bit right on," McGaughey said. "I'm hoping somewhere along the line I can get a copy of it and put in my car so I can hear it again because it was very impressive. There were a lot of thoughts that had been passed on to him and passed on to other coaches and players. He was very, very thankful for his family. He was very thankful for football.
"I always knew he was a football guy, but you could tell when he was standing up there the passion he has for the NFL, and even college football. He talked about the sanctuary of the locker room."
What might have impressed McGaughey the most was the level of commitment and passion for football expressed by Parcells and fellow inductees Larry Allen, Cris Carter, Curley Culp, Jonathan Ogden, Dave Robinson and Warren Sapp.
"I never saw he had a note," McGaughey said. "He just wanted to go up there and talk, and it all came together in a great way. These guys are speaking from their heart, and they're telling people about their lives, maybe even parts they for a long time didn't want people to know. It was hugely, hugely impressive."

The NFL HOF is a poularity Take for example Saints linebacker Rickey Jackson. The saints winb the title he gets in. The guy was a friggin beast and retired with a bunch of sacks. Top 10 category to be exact. He also converted a bunch if turnovers. I don't think the average nfl fan realizes how good the dome patrol was,( swilling, jackson, vaughn johnson and sam mills) . They were the Ravens before the Ravens. 2 things that stopped them was numerous Montana drives and a lousy conservitive offense under Mora and a bum qb bobby hebert

mack you are preaching to the choir. I bet the saints a couple times during that era. it wasn't even so much hebert. he was just as important to that team as say dilfer was to the ravens. he wasn't going to carry a team, but he didn't have to. the problem was jim mora is one of the worst head coaches in the history of football. he assembled talent but could not coach.

Heard on the news the first Baltimore Colt to the HOF, Artie Donovan died today. He used to appear on Letterman a lot and was always funny as hell. What a character. Think Cait might have known him?

it's a sad day in baltimore as artie was loved by all - my dad knew bill pellington and artie used to hang out a lot at bill's restaurant - when we went, artie would often join us - i was a young kid but i remember him being charming to my mother, laughing with my dad and very nice my sister and me
re the new inductees - damn - ogden is one tall guy lol there's a commercial showing here with balto's mayor - he towers over her and she's no shrimp lol

yeah ogden was one hell of a player. best of this group if you ask me and most deserving. I never saw robinson or culp play, but with a name like david robinson he must be great. cris carter would be least deserving in my book. wide recievers and running backs are a dime a dozen in the nfl. way more get inducted then should be.
