Am a big fan of LA racing - especially in the winter. There are some who take tons of shots at it while praising their pathetic home state's racing.
The CA Towncrier, Hovdey, brought up an article from LA related to a drug bust - not ON TRACK, not horses. paddockpros.freeforums.net/index.cgi?board=generallounge&action=display&thread=2375
He turned it into a damnation of LA racing and quarterhorse racing.
Hey Hovdey - How about following up on the Baffert mess? You know, all the "mysterious" deaths? How about following up on the increasing breakdowns and injuries at Del Mar? How about CA's lax drug policies and it's trainers endorsement of the BC reneging on banning Lasix? How about the drug problems at Los Al?
At least in LA (NY and other states also) racing commissions are doing something to deal with the problems, not sweeping them under the rug because they so desperately need horses as the CHRB does.
CA racing is in trouble. LA racing is not. LA has a rich history and continues to add to it. (For ex - Many oif the best jockeys come out of LA). CA HAD a rich history but is not positively adding to it. Politics (no casinos) does hamper CA's ability to compete but the trainers and CHRB are also contributing to it's demise. I won't be surprised when Stronach offers to buy a hefty % of DelMar to help their expansion. He'd go after DelMar completely but he's not that dumb LOL Actually that might not be a bad idea because he would have the brains to reinstall dirt and get rid of the outdated, unsafe, pos main track that is currently being used.
LA has a strong racing presence and is growing - Congrats
