Bill Parcells loving his Saratoga Snacks
Parcells, who races under the name August Dawn Farm, has his best horse yet in Saratoga Snacks, who has won six of eight starts and is scheduled to run in the $100,000 John Morrissey Stakes on Aug. 1 at Saratoga.

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Every morning when he gets the chance, Bill Parcells comes to the track to watch the thoroughbreds work in the morning.
“It’s beautiful up here,” said the former Giants and Jets coach, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 3. “I’ll try to come every morning if I can, I live up here. This is my second time today already. I just got back from rehab on my (left) shoulder.
“With no more football, this is what I like to spend my time with,” added the two-time Super Bowl-winning coach. “I buy two or three yearlings a year and see how they play out.”

“He’s a nice horse to be around,” said Parcells, who turns 72 on Aug. 22. “The best I’ve ever had.”
Saratoga Snacks is a New York-bred horse trained by Gary Sciacca, who had great success with another New York-bred, Saratoga Dew, who was voted the champion 3-year-old filly of 1992.
“He’s just as good if not better than Saratoga Dew,” Sciacca said of Saratoga Snacks.
It was because of Saratoga Dew that Sciacca met Parcells. Giants great Sam Huff owned part of her, and Parcells came to the races with Huff to watch Saratoga Dew in 1992.
“I said I’ve got to meet him,” Sciacca said of Parcells. “We had a couple of drinks and now we’re great friends.”
Besides Saratoga Snacks, Parcells has another unraced horse with Sciacca called Campion Lane, who may debut later.
“Horse racing has a lot of parallels to football,” Parcells said. “You’re dealing with athletes, and there are some that show up every morning ready to give it their all and there are some who are lazy and you have to work through that with them. Then there are injuries you have to deal with. There’s plenty of adversity in both sports.”
If everything goes right for Saratoga Snacks in the Morrissey, Sciacca said he will try the Grade I Forego Stakes on Aug. 31.
