Normandy Invasion outkicks them all and finally gets the perfect setup wins by 3.
Best of luck everyone.

Respect your pick Vic! I like Normandy to run either second or third.

Vic, someone should have told your horse the race was on Saturday. Even if that takes nothing from him, the best case scenario we see here at QU for NI is a 3rd place finish but that is only on one storm path. We see him most likely 5th -10th...GL though bro.

I have to stay with my Futures pick - Oxbow. I'm hoping he outguns Goldencents. And thank god he's not being pushed to the one gate!
I'll will probably box Oxbow, Revolutionary, Orb and someone LOL If it rains, the someone will be Java's War. If I'm doing well, I might throw in cc's ridiculous longshot ;D

GL to all. May your day be a winning one. I've yet to narrow it down to one but will spend some time in the early part of tomorrow to make my final pick. Leaning towards Orb but as I had mentioned earlier I have a soft spot for IMLD. Waiting on the weather report for tomorrow.

I have been looking at the Racing Form all night now. It is the first time I see the past performances of all Derby horses together on 5 consecutive pages which makes it a lot better to follow and get a better feeling for the horses.
I liked Vyjack behind Revolutionary, but now that I see all these horses together I don't think I like him that much anymore. I mean what did he ever do that was impressive? His only impressive race was when he ran in 45/3 1:09 at AQU to beat ORB at 6F in his first start. His distance races all have been slowwwww (which does not say too much for ORB either). He was beat by Verazzano all the way around in a slow Wood race. He just don't seem like the horse that is going to rise to the occasion and win a big one like this.
Then you have Orb who's best race was the Fountain of Youth which was run in very fast fractions but then he came back in the Florida Derby to run a very slowwwwww race. That does not say much for anything coming out of that race, even Itsmyluckyday.
Verazzano looked like a monster in his first two races at GP but the Wood was so slowwwww, but maybe that is all he needed to do and you can say possibly that he was a much better horse so you have to respect him.
Goldenscents has yet to run a bad race. Was good as a 2yo winning he DED jackpot against all of these all the way around and won the SA Derby all too showing same speed. So you can say Goldenscents has not lost anything from 2yo to 3yo.
Palace Malice looks like the dark horse in this race. Beat the juvenile sprint winner Hightail by 3 at SAR in 44/3 1:09 which is the fastest fractional race ran by anything in the Derby. Got bottled up around the final turn in the La derby after being 10 off pace and practically galloping in and instant to be just behind the leaders with no where to go. Then in the stretch got squeezed between the rail and may have won that easy and had an inferior jock on board. Now has Mike Smith. This horse has hidden class, is just starting to learn how to run the distance, and can run as close to the pace as necessary so will not get left behind.
My picks as of now are as follows:
1. Palace Malice 2. Verrazano 3. Goldenscents 4. Revolutionary 5. Orb 6. Falling Sky 7. Vyjack 8. Itsmyluckyday

Although my horse didn't win he ran valiantly after running closer to the pace (a hot pace at that) and still was beaten 3-4 lengths back in 4th for the whole thing. Overall I had 3 of the 4 horse in the super, and if I had the kahones to bet a super with my top 6 selections I would be 56k richer today.....I had NI 1st, Rev 2nd, Orb 3rd, Goldencents 4th, Itsmyluckyday 5th, and Golden Soul 6th........thats horse racing.
Great job to Shug, the Phipps, and the Janeys, this is the most deserved Kentucky Derby of all-time. All of these people have poured their lives into the game and they were given the ultimate prize. Even though I lost, this was still one of the greatest Kentucky Derbys we will ever see. Sometimes it's not all about the horse, and surely that was the case this evening. Unlike the years of Rachel, Zenyatta, Curlin, etc this is a horse WE CAN ALL FINALLY ROOT FOR. This horse symbolizes everything that is good about horse racing as a sport, the people involved, and the horse that competes. I hope this horse makes history. Great job to all that picked him on top, and to anyone who hit the super great job. It was a very happy day for me and even though I lost my bets, I feel like we all won. Shug, the Phipps's, the Janey's, and Orb --- it doesn't get any better than that in horse racing.

agree totally that orb is a horse all can root for
never think the derby is any measure of "handicapping" it's why i always throw an unlikely longshot in (this year's not so great however lol)
i don't know if he's a secretariat or affirmed etc , but i would love to see another tc winner - and it would be great for racing - there's no better "image " for the mainstream than the phipps and shug

I agree cait.
It's too early to say he rates up there with great horses, right now he's a good horse who has a chance at history but can become great if he does great things. From a historical fan perspective though I got great value from the race and I would rate very few Kentucky Derbies ahead of it. I can't even remember the last time one of the 'great American racing families' won a Derby. It would probably have to be 1989 when Whittingham and Hancock won with Sunday Silence (ooo the irony).
Shoutout to you and shooter, as I know you both stuck with Orb the whole way. I knew he'd run well -- I had him 3rd -- I just didn't think he would have the same kind of kick as NI and Rev who have had better closing fractions in their final preps. Regardless, great job on the pick I hope he takes the whole thing. It would be phenomenal for racing and it would please every racing fan.
