The 139th running of the $2,000,000, GI Kentucky Derby, Presented by Yum Brands, for the best 3yo¡¯s in the land, going 1 1/4 mile over the Churchill Downs main track goes as race #11 at about 6:35 P.M. ET on the Churchill Derby Day card this Saturday!
A full field of ¡°20¡å has been entered this year with GI Florida Derby winner Orb at 7/2 comes out of Gate 16 and GI Wood Memorial Stakes winner Verrazano at 4/1 fires from Gate 14, are this year¡¯s top favorites.
2012 Derby and Preakness winning trainer Doug O¡¯Neill is bringing his GI Santa Anita Derby winning star Goldencents, at 5/1 will spring from Gate 8!
This 3yo is looking to follow in the footsteps of 2012 Derby winner I¡¯ll Have Another as he has $1.25 million in earnings, 3 graded stakes wins and the fastest 1 1/8 mile winning time this spring at 1:48.4 getting a top 105 Beyer for that effort as well!
GI Arkansas Derby winner Overanalyze , at 15/1 won Gate 9 and GII Louisiana Derby Revolutionary, at 10/1 from Gate 3, along with Verrazano are all Trainer Todd Pletcher charges as he is saddling ¡°5¡å, 3yo¡¯s into this year¡¯s derby!
Normandy Invasion, at 12/1, comes out of Gate 5 was 2nd in the GI Wood Memorial last out was quickly closing the gap on Verrazano but just ran out of real estate in that GI tilt. He has been training very well here at Churchill for the past few weeks and could be a closer here this Saturday!
