He will make Java's War work for it. Just as he did at Keenland. Both these horses are on the upswing. The scale has tipped toward Java but with much respect to Palace Malice. Pletcher will get a good one without even knowing at times. He will certainly be the common denominator for testing at least a half dozen horses making early or middle moves. His style will cost him in this race enough for Java to get rolling. Quantums shows a few storm paths though where PM actually beats JW but the overall measurement is still Java who we still do qualify a MQL. We feel being a closer in this race, THE closer is a huge advantage. Yes they have been known to be impeded and worse but with normal trip we see Java sitting on a monster race. He'll put that dirt stuff to rest too. He worked very well today.

I like this horse tremendously but I just don't think he's up to a race like the Derby just yet. I think he'll run well but look for him to develop and reach his full potential later on in the year. Maybe a Travers horse.

Palace Malice was 8th by 5 - 6th by 7 - 8th by 4 and finished 7th by 7 in the La derby. That was a very telling race insofar as how good a horse he is as there are others in the derby that came out of that race and ran much much better. Prior to that could not beat Code West. Then him and Java's War ran one-two. Palace Malice is as good as Java's War and since Palace Malice ran poorly against others in here is the very telling La Derby, both of them are not close to the capabilities of the others that did run better in the La Derby. Palace Malice and Java's War will be lying close to last all the way around in the derby and won't be able to recover any much from thereon since they are too out-classed in the derby to mount a big move that is needed

cappernick we suggest you retake the course Racewatch 101. Secretariat would have gotten beat with the Palace Malice ride in the LA. Derby. It was nothing but conditioning for him. Shooter, we believe he will be extremely sharp in Kentucky, the one to beat for us.
