What's ypour opinion re the new points system?
The new point system -- officially branded as the "Road to the Kentucky Derby" -- will feature 36 stakes races overall and include 17 marquee events for three-year-old Thoroughbreds that comprise a compact, 10-week run up to the first Saturday in May to be known as the "Kentucky Derby Championship Series."
None of the qualifying points races are held at less than a mile.
Prep Season races award ten points to first, four to second, two to third, and one for fourth. This phase of the series includes the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). None of the other four Breeders' Cup races for two-year-olds are on the list.

Races in the first leg of the Championship Series award 50 points to the winner, 20 to the runner-up, ten to third, and five for fourth.
The first leg of the Championship Series includes:

•Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) - Gulfstream Park
•Gotham Stakes (G3) - Aqueduct
•Tampa Bay Derby (G2) - Tampa Bay Downs

•Rebel Stakes (G2) - Oaklawn Park
•Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes (G2) - Turfway Park

The second leg of the Championship Series includes the final major prep races, scheduled within the last five weeks leading up to the Kentucky Derby. These races are worth 100 points to the winner, 40 to second, 20 to third, and 10 to fourth.
The second leg of the Championship Series includes:
•UAE Derby (UAE-G2) - Meydan Racecourse, United Arab Emirates
•Louisiana Derby (G2) - Fair Grounds
•Florida Derby (G1) - Gulfstream Park
•Resorts World Casino New York City Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) - Aqueduct
•Santa Anita Derby (G1) - Santa Anita Park
•Arkansas Derby (G1) - Oaklawn Park
•Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1) - Keeneland Race Course
Following the second leg, there are two remaining chances to earn points. The Coolmore Lexington Stakes (G2) and The Cliff's Edge Derby Trial Stakes (G3), traditionally the final chances to pick up graded stakes earnings, have been designated as "wild card" races and award points on a 20-8-4-2 basis.
The Illinois Derby (G3) is not a points race.
