Inglorious, Mystical Star highlight Doubledogdare
In search of her first victory since the Queen's Plate nearly two years ago, former Canadian champion Inglorious will face seven rivals in Friday's Grade 3, $100,000 Doubledogdare at Keeneland.
A 1 1/16-mile journey on the Polytrack, the Doubledogdare should be a solid fit for Inglorious, who also captured the Woodbine Oaks and La Lorgnette on a similar surface during her 2011 championship campaign as Canada's top three-year-old filly. The Hennessy mare was limited to just four starts in 2012, placing in the Dance Smartly at Woodbine and the Bayakoa Handicap at Hollywood Park, but enters Friday's heat following a close third-place effort on the Gulfstream turf in the February 9 Suwannee River.
Mystical Star, Grade 2 winner on turf last year in the New York at Belmont Park, might go favored based on a 3-2-1-0 career mark on Keeneland's main track. An allowance winner at the past two spring meets at the Lexington, Kentucky, track, the Christophe Clement trainee was also a solid second to In Lingerie in last October's Spinster. She kicked off her 2013 campaign on March 9, racing evenly and finishing third in the Hillsborough at Tampa Bay Downs.
Lotta Lovin has been the queen of Turfway Park over the past year, winning four stakes including the January 19 Likely Exchange by 10 1/4 lengths. However, the Repent filly has struggled in two prior starts over Keeneland's Polytrack and will be tested again for class.
Artemus Kitten, Alaura Michele and Sisterhood, all of whom have won stakes on grass, are all seeking their first graded victory in the Doubledogdare. Grade 3-placed stakes winner Ice Cream Silence makes just her second start off a layoff of more than eight months, while trainer Michael Matz will saddle French import Minakshi, who just missed winning a minor stakes at Chantilly in her most recent start November 5.
