I think all of us missed this. As I was looking at the RA and Zenyatta threads, I wondered about my favorite girl - Goldikova. She had her first foal - a colt by Galileo on Feb 6.

If there ever was a horse bred to run through the wind, it may have been born this past Sunday. On Feb. 3rd at Coolmore Stud in County Tipperay, Ireland, world class super mare Goldikova, gave birth to her first foal. The February foal, who has yet to be named, was sired by top turf stud Galileo.
Galileo is most notable now for being the father to Frankel, who recently retired with an unbeaten 14 for 14, earning the highest time form ratings ever recorded. In addition he has sired 26 Group or Grade 1 winners including, Rip Van Winkle, Soilder of Fortune, Red Rocks, and 2011 Turf Horse of the Year Cape Blanco.
As for Goldikova, all she did was become the only horse to win three Breeders Cup races, 14 Group 1 races, she has won both European horse of the year and American horse of the year honors. When she retired in 2011, she had amassed over seven million dollars in career earnings.
She wasn't a big horse like Zenyatta, and she didn't possess great stamina to go a mile and a half, but when she was in form there was no one who could compete with her explosive late kick. Thats to say, no one who she ran against, of course the one colt who could run with her is of course Frankel, who is the son of Galilieo. Which makes this connection all the more important.
Genetically it almost seams too good to be true, as there is so much talent, and royalty in these lines that it would almost seem fitting if the colt wound up running in cheap claiming races at Zia Park. It seems with many of these brilliantly bred horses that the expectations exceed the outcome. Although never to be too sure, the folks at Coolmore are doubling down on their investment, as they are planning to have Goldikova go right back to breeding with Galilieo.
