Is the BC afraid they won't get enough entries?! It will be an embarassment if the "Win and You're In" winners don't go. Of course, they now are also offering traveling $ but will that be enough? Of course, several of the "new" BC Challenge races are in CA. South Africa? Argentina? Yep - they are afraid of a lack of US entries! Australian and English horses hjave plenty of big purses to go for - they don't need the BC, which hasn't been a "World Championship" for years - if ever. It's becoming not even a US Championship.
The BC needs a complete overhaul. It's losing market share, TV ratings (and coverage), it's overtired and it needs a change of venue. SA is now a "contender for 2014"? LMAO If that happens, it shows that the BC cares nothing about racing fans or the total racing industry - just their own pockets. If the BC just disappeared, US racing would once again have important Fall meets. Sounds good to me!

A total of 67 stakes races, 48 Grade 1 or Group 1, to be run in 10 countries make up this year’s Win and You’re In qualifying races for the Breeders’ Cup, the Breeders’ Cup announced Monday afternoon.
This year’s Breeders’ Cup, the 30th, will be held Nov. 1 and 2 at Santa Anita, which played host to the event last year and is among the contenders to host it again next year, too.
This is the seventh year of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series, popularly known as Win and You’re In because victory in any of the designated races results in a fees-paid berth to the corresponding Breeders’ Cup race. In addition, the Breeders’ Cup will provide travel allowances for all starters who win such races outside of California.
The first race in this country this year will be the Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 15. Victory in that race earns a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, won last year by Fort Larned.
This year’s races will be held in the United States, Canada, Argentina, Australia, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, and South Africa. This year’s series began in January in South Africa, when the 5-year-old Variety Club won the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town and qualified for an automatic starting position in the Breeders’ Cup Mile on turf. The series continues this Saturday at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Australia with the T.J. Smith Stakes for an automatic berth into the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
Last year, a record 45 winners of Win and You’re In races participated in the Breeders’ Cup, including BC winners Fort Larned, Wise Dan (Mile), Groupie Doll (Filly and Mare Sprint), Royal Delta (Ladies’ Classic), Shanghai Bobby (Juvenile), Little Mike (Turf), and Calidoscopio (Marathon). Wise Dan secured Horse of the Year with his victory in the Mile.
There are nine new races in the series this year, including the Triple Bend at Betfair Hollywood Park, the Bing Crosby and Pat O’Brien at Del Mar, and the Pocahontas and Iroquois at Churchill Downs.
