Flashback Off Derby Trail with Knee Chip By Steve Haskin, @stevehaskin Updated: Monday, April 8, 2013 12:24 AM Gary and Mary West's Flashback, second in the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), came out of the race with a small chip in his right knee and will be sent to Rood & Riddle April 10 to have the chip removed, trainer Bob Baffert said April 7. Flashback was the even-money favorite in the Santa Anita Derby, but was unable to catch the 6-1 Goldencents, who scored by 1 1/4 lengths. "He's going to be fine," Baffert said. "He took a little bobble in the stretch when he turned for home and switched leads and didn't go on after that. So maybe he did it then. This morning he was fine, but he had some heat in the knee, so we took an X-ray and found the fresh chip in there. Dr. (Larry) Bramlage of Rood & Riddle recommended we take it out and said he should make a full recovery with the surgery and time off." Flashback, a son of Tapit —Rhumb Line, by Mr. Greeley, has two victories and two seconds in four career starts, including a 6 1/4-length romp in the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (gr. II). Since i juries to Pletcher's horses are his faulkt in your opinion - is this Baffert's fault? I don't think so - don't think so re Pletcher either.

This is terrible news. I think he's a beautiful horse- didn't think he'd win the Derby. Will he come back or retire?

Sorry to hear but no surprise here. Tapits are only good for 4 or 5 races tops. And in Baffert's hands on top of it....well nuff said. Had no chance in the Derby anyway so no great loss as far as the running of the race is concerned. I will reinterate my position from earlier this year. Nothing from Tapit will ever win the Kentucky Derby or any othef Triple Crown race. They are simply not Classic horses and Flashback is just more evidence. Hope he can make a full recovery because he is a big beautiful young horse who just has the misfortune of being sired by quite possibly the weakest commercial stallion on the market today.

This is just another notch for Bobby ...And they took issue when Elite said he'd probably kill Paytner?
