Zayat announced via Twitter (@jazz3162) Saturday that Grade I winner Paynter, the fan favorite and Vox Populi candidate who recovered from a critical illness in recent months, will be returning to California to resume training with Bob Baffert. "Paynter is giving us our best Christmas and New Year's gift," Zayat tweeted. "Paynter has made it clear to me, my family and his vets, that he is ready to go back to his trainer [Bob Baffert] to resume what he loves as a Thoroughbred, which is racing." Zayat reports the horse passed examinations from his clinicians at New Bolton Center, and will fly to Los Angeles Dec. 29. He plans to be on hand to greet his horse. After winning the Haskell Invitational earlier this year, Paynter became ill with colitis in late August. The Awesome Again colt was transferred to New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pa. after treatment at Upstate Equine Medical Center in New York and underwent surgery for an intestinal abscess. After a battle with laminitis, Paynter rallied remarkably, and has since been recuperating at Fair Hill Equine Therapy in Maryland. www.paulickreport.com/news/thoroughbred-racing/zayat-paynter-headed-home-to-baffert/This is great! Who thinks he will run well next year? I do!
