plus don't forget the over/under. how many people will be stabbed in the parking lot or the infield on race day. I set the line at 13 1/2. Hey wiz, your horse is running tomorrow - Bens Rat. You gonna make a bet on him? lol.

A perfect break last race is far from predictable plus I expect many others won't get smashed from the start.

you wont see me betting him to win at 1/5, but he wont be that low anyway. classic empire isn't paying that much more then him in the susan/Preakness double. he will probably be 4/5 and empire maybe 2/1 everyone else will be double digits and they should be. this is not a betting race because these two horses lay over the field. all of those horses who got "smashed" at the start, where do you think they would have been coming from anyway if they had gotten a clean start? they were all dead closers except empire. the fact is they went 46 and change on an off track and dreaming basically went wire to wire and won as easily as he wanted to. that race convinced me. if empire is sound, as it appears he is now, he is the only one capable of beating him unless something unforeseen happens.

I see it similarly - despite all the trouble two weeks ago, Always Dreaming, as Ed Burgart would say, never looked like a loser. Those early fractions were fast (he was a length behind the leader), and then at the top of the stretch he was pretty much home free. There was actually more trouble for the trailing 10 horses or so at the top of the stretch than at the start.
If Always Dreaming does win tomorrow (I think he will), I'll stick my neck out and say that we may be looking at our second Triple Crown winner in 3 years.
Here's the video with an overhead view of the start - there was a lot less trouble than people think.

exactly. the only one that really had a worse trip then he would normally get was empire. gunnevera had basically no trouble at all and the trouble that hence had was more after the start from traffic, which he would have gotten into regardless because he has no speed and comes from last anyway. I think he will win tomorrow as long as conquest mo moneys jockey doesn't let his nerves get to him and commit suicide but gunning for the lead from that post. otherwise the 3 of them (dreaming, empire, mo money) should run 1-2-3 all the way around the track. leparoux will be happy to sit off of dreaming and try to out finish him late which I doubt he can do. its just his style.

Anyone read "Colin's Ghost", a website put together by a guy interested in racing history? I get emails about five or six times a year from them. Here's one I got yesterday about the Preakness and some undocumented runnings, interesting stuff: colinsghost.org/2017/05/revisiting-the-lost-preakness.htmlAlso, I was looking at past winners of the Dixie Stakes (used to be Handicap), years ago they ran it at 1-1/2 miles, then reduced it to 1-1/8 miles, and now 1-1/16 miles. I wonder how long it'll be before it's a 5F race?

did you see the NBC short on the condition of pimlico and wanting to move the race to laurel? I suppose we are still imagining it, right George?

Preakness Shatters Handle and Attendance Records
140,327 Watch Cloud Computing Win 142nd Preakness
BALTIMORE – The Maryland Jockey Club announced that Saturday’s 142nd Preakness Stakes (G1) broke all handle and attendance records at Pimlico Race Course.
Attendance for the Preakness, won by Cloud Computing was 140,327, breaking last year’s record of 135,256.
Total handle on Pimlico’s 14-race program was $97,168,658, an increase of three percent over the previous record of $94,127,434 and a 14-percent increase over 2015 wagering.
The Maryland Jockey Club also announced that in-state handle was up 7.1 percent from last year and 10.4 percent from 2015.
“From morning into evening, we witnessed an incredible day of world-class racing and eclectic entertainment,” said Sal Sinatra, President of the Maryland Jockey Club. “The sport of Thoroughbred racing is being rejuvenated and reimagined by the Stronach family. Their commitment to this sport is remarkable and unparalleled. Their vision is being embraced by horsemen and fans around the country.
“We want to thank the fans who came to Pimlico Saturday as well as the horsemen who supported our program this weekend. And, of course, the incredible equine athletes for their spirit and beauty.”

I came across this a few days ago, forgot to post it. Note the pronunciation of "Preakness" (Prakeness). There were actually four race tracks in Northern New Jersey back in the mid-1800s. If you ever drove up Route 17 from Paramus to the NYS line, there is still a county highway in the town of Ho-Ho-Kus (where one of the tracks was located) called Race Track Road. www.lambertcastle.org/preakness_race.htmlWayne's Most Famous Resident - The Horse "Preakness"
