The "best winter race place" couldn't get a Tractor of the Racetrack. So they had to cancel the last Race.
Now that's REALLY funny.........

According to DRFGrening they had to cancel even though they FINALLY got the Tractor removed due to a State Law that doesn't allow a race past sundown.
Also the State doesn't allow racing on Palm Sunday or Easter, yet the Casino is open both days....

I knew the NY haters would have a field day. No - I can't defend this incident. However, the promised upgrades did include new equipment which hasn't yet arrived. There has been record cold - but no excuse. I'm betting there will be more incidents like this because the Governor wants to close the big A. He loves this kind of press as do his puppets on the NYRA. Sad - it's all very sad. Here's the story: Tractor Trouble Stops Final Race at Aqueduct Bloodhorse The ninth and final race Jan. 5 at Aqueduct Racetrack was canceled after a harrowing tractor broke down on the outer rail of the backstretch of the inner track. Because the tractor could not be removed prior to sunset (4:43 p.m. EST), the race was called off by the stewards. A New York State Gaming Commission rule prohibits the start of a race after sunset. "By mutual agreement of all three stewards, we elected to cancel the race rather than run it under potentially unsafe circumstances," said New York Racing Association steward Braulio Baeza Jr. "We are certainly disappointed to have been forced to cancel today's final race," said Martin Panza, senior vice president of racing operations for NYRA. "The tractor's transmission locked up, and it could not be removed in expedient fashion. The safety of our horses and riders always comes first, and the only sensible move was to cancel the ninth race. Our apologies go out to all bettors, fans, and horsemen who were inconvenienced by this unfortunate circumstance." All win, place, show, exacta, trifecta, and superfecta wagers on the ninth race were refunded. All runners in the last race were declared winners in the double, Pick 3, Pick 4, and Pick 6 pools. By New York State Gaming Commission rule, the $24,569 Pick 6 carryover was not paid out and will be carried over when racing resumes on Thursday, Jan, 9. And here's the tractor - nothing like the crappy pix posted earlier I dont recall decrepit starting gate photos posted when Del Mar's starting gate failed last summer and a race was canceled. Oh - right - Del Mar isn't in NY. Might be a new year but same old bs, same old hate. Guess it's not a great cruise - sorry! Hope it improves so you can use your time to enjopy! Photo: Anne M. Eberhardt

The ONLY reason the race was cancelled was because it would have had to have been run after sunset.
Of course there has to be comments from all the usual detractors
Evelyn, I seriously doubt that Governor Cuomo had anything to do with this, and it really has nothing to do with Palm Sunday or Easter, either.
Any childish comments or clown pictures from anyone when Delta Downs cancelled the other night because their BACKUP generator failed after the main power supply failed?

George:
A New Year and the same from you... You carefully edit your writings, just like someone else you know... How am I detracting, just telling the FACTS about what happened. So now you're comparing the "quality" of racing to NY and Delta Downs. They are about equal, maybe Delta even has better Horses.
Your last edit was 11:41, let's "see" what else gets changed ...
About Palm Sunday and Easter, DRFGrening finds it interesting that the Casino is allowed to be open, but not the Horses. Maybe you should apply to be part of the Fan Advsiory Board, all the cheer leading you're doing for NY Racing. Just sayin'

When were you appointed to the editorial board of Paddock Pros?
I edited the post to correct a spelling error, if it any freaking business of yours. At least I try to make sure my posts are literate.

As far as the track is closed but the casino is open, that's subject to state law - there are two different laws covering race track operation and casino operation.
Since he spends so much time at Aqueduct Grening might want to check with someone in the racing or administrative office.

pres - new year and nothing changes? correct lol and your last post is redundant - can't blame the crew if the ancient equipment breaks down - george - that's where you blame the nyra....and cuomo because it's his little group in control! why do you defend him? have you met the idiot? i have - several times - he's a conceited jackass with mush for brains!

cait, I wasn't sticking up for him (if you read my posts over the last several months, I'm not a fan of his - he certainly isn't Mario!!) But I wasn't blaming him either. I'm sure as the governor of New York State the last thing from his mind yesterday was the condition of the tractors at Aqueduct.
The equipment isn't ancient, but it was freaking 20 degrees at Aqueduct yesterday - stuff happens, at Aqueduct, Parx, Delta Downs, even sunny Del Mar.
If equipment and vehicles never broke down Americans wouldn't have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars a year on AAA dues.
Maybe they should go back to hauling the harrows and starting gate like they did at Narragansett Park, using work horses?

George I haven't busted your balls or ridden you for a while now, but when you get like this, its hard not to..most of this thread was joking, especially my response. in fact, I was poking fun at los and the problems they had, not the one yesterday. but once again, as soon as anyone makes any sort of comment against nyra or ny racing, you and others get all defensive and start pouting. why not just admit the problems and short comings they have and not act as if their shit don't stink like everyone else's? I swear, you act like a little kid who gets his feelings hurt sometimes or the most minute crap on here. try dealing with some drunken midget talking shit on your dead mother or about your poor health because a hospital was responsible for you contracting a virus you have had for 15 years now. those are real things to get upset over and lash back at people over. not someone making fun of a tractor that wont start.
