they are running the 1.1 million dollar golden state futurity tonight al los alamitos, and they have made it a non wagering exhibition race with a 10 horse field. there is only 2 possible reasons for this. the first, and the one that i assumed was the most reasonable, is that ED ALLRED, the owner of the track and most chicken shit man in america, is scared of having a minus pool in the win pool as well as any of the other two pools and doesnt want to cover the shortages if there is. he started this shit about 5 years ago. whenever there is a horse that looks like he will be 1-5 or lower, he just cancels show wagering rather then let people gamble. isnt that what horse racing is about? gambling? isnt that how the trak makes its money? hell 5 or 6 years ago he actually cancelled a 200k race because of it. snowbound superstar got completely screwed out of his biggest payday of his career because allred thought it was a mismatch between him and his rivals and just cancelled the race about 4 days before the race. the guy is a total Ahole.
but now i hear from a reliable source who would know more then me at this point, that the real reason is that the rumor is there will be multiple bad tests after the race and allred wants as little exposure for the race as possible and doesnt want the uproar from the wagering public afterwards.
WTF??
ARE YOU SERIOUS??
after all the nonsense 2 or 3 years ago about clearing out the juice trainers and drug cartel owners, and then your in this spot? your cancelling betting on a marquee race, probably the 3rd biggest of the year, because you know they are cheating? why bother running at all? why are you open? to run 5 horse fields 3 days a week? then once a month you get a 10 horse field and you have to cancel betting becuse you know they are cheating? believe me Ahole, if they are cheating on this race they are cheating on the other races as well. you just dont care about that because the public wont know about it.
its time to just do what should have been done years ago. clear out the barns and just focus on the thoroughbreds a few months a year, and use the place for simulcasting otherwise. hell maybe even bring back harness racing, which i hate, if you want oher live racing. qh racing is dead, and it has been for years.

When I used to travel to California a few times a year, I loved Los Alamitos - full cards of 9 or 10 or 11 races a night, only two of those "thoroughbred" races a night. In fact, when I was out there on a Friday night I'd prefer going to Los Alamitos instead of Hollywood Park.
Then about five years ago it really hit the wall - down to three nights a week, then down to eight races a night, and half of them thoroughbreds. The fields that used to be 9 or 10 horses per race dwindled down to six before scratches. It's become a depressing joke.
Now, as far as the big race tonight is concerned, we knew after the trials that this was not going to be a clean race. As I pointed out back then, eight of the ten original qualifiers were trained by a single trainer who has been ruled off the grounds. I don't know if they have been eliminated and they put in the next group of qualifiers, but I'm surprised that they're even running the race based on what they "know".
Look at the field. You have a MILLION dollar race, but half of the horses now have new trainers?
I agree, quarter horse racing at Los Alamitos is dead, and they should put it out of their misery.

And are you watching this joke playing out before the 7th race tonight? I haven't heard if there are any serious injuries (not listening to the audio), but there has been about a 10+ minute delay and two of he six horses have now been scratched. WTF?

one of the horses jumped in the lake!! 3 of them broke through the gate out of a 6 horse field and 2 were scratched.
this should put a nail in the coffin for qh racing in ca.
gee, lets ask the public `to wait 40 minutes to bet on a 4 horse field while another horse swims around in the lake while the race is running. then lets ask the public to stick around and show ANY interest in a race they cant even bet!!

I just read the story on DRF. It reminded me of a night about 10+ years ago when a horse during a race somehow jumped over the outside rail right past the winner's circle/walking ring and got stuck between the wrought iron fence closest to the grandstand and the fence near the track. The space was so narrow that they couldn't maneuver the horse to get him out so they got a welder with a torch to cut a section out of the white wrought iron fence. Then they led the horse on the apron to the gate to the winners circle and he jogged off. The next day they welded the fence back together. The last time I was there (about 3-4 years ago) the weld marks were still on the fence. The whole thing delayed the next race by about a half hour.

i remember that. i also renenber the night steve treasure ended up in the lake also. it was raining so bad and the track was so sloppy that the horse jumped the inside rail and skidded along the wet grass all the way to the lake and they both fell in!!

just saw this on the website. pay attention to the last 2 sentance.
how do you even run a race where you have to clarify 2 days before the race that you know they are going to cheat and there is nothing you can do about it? how about speeding up the F*ing testing process and scratching out the dirty testers?
The Grade 1 $1,031,100 Golden State Million Futurity, a race headed by the West Coast’s top 2-year-old Heza Dasha Fire, will be contested as a non-wagering event on Sunday night at Los Alamitos Race Course. Ten horses are scheduled to compete in the Golden State Million, which is listed as the ninth and final race on the Sunday card.
The final betting race at Los Alamitos on Sunday will now be the 8th race. As a result, the Late Pick 4 will consist of races 5, 6, 7, and 8. The Late Pick 4 will pay after race number 8. The Pick 6, Pick 3, Late Daily Double and Place Pick All will all conclude after race number 8.
Owned and bred by Kennewick, Washington-based S-Quarter K LLC, Heza Dasha Fire is eligible to win the $1,000,000 Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza, which serves as the track’s version of the Triple Crown. The gelding by Walk Thru Fire could win the million dollar bonus if he goes on to win the Grade 1 $1,031,100 Golden State Million Futurity on Sunday and then the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity on December 14. Heza Dasha Fire won the first leg of the Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza in June when he came away victorious in the Ed Burke Million Futurity. The $30,000 Golden State Juvenile Stakes for 2-year-olds will be contested as a wagering event and as the fourth race on Sunday night.
Hair testing was conducted on the 10 Golden State Million finalists following the running of the October 19 trials. Test results are not available as of this time.

I wonder when the test results will be released and how many horses are disqualified.
Six of the eight entries in the Golden State Futurity (the $30,000 fourth race) also ran in the trials. Did they run hair samples on those horses too, or did they just conclude that the juice didn't work well enough for them to qualify?

i dont know what is going on there. that race is supposed to be for the 11th-20th fastest qualifiers, but only 6 horses from the trials entered it. for a $30,000 purse at los al? that is a good sized purse. so then the rule stipulates that if all ten of those horses dont run, then anyone can enter for the remaining spots. but still they only drew 2 more horses for a total of 8? makes no sense.

I wish I had the PPs for the night of the trials.
Just a guess, but maybe many of the trial entrants were from out of state and if they didn't qualify their connections went back home. I know $30,000 is a decent purse at Los Alamitos, but to hang around for a couple of weeks or to ship back to Los Alamitos for the consolation race to make $18,000 if the horse wins probably didn't make sense to the trainers. Only two of the eight in the race were not already based at Los Alamitos. Also, two of the six that competed in the trials finished fifth, so they obviously weren't among the 11th to 20th qualifiers (I believe there were ten trials that night?)

More problems with the stakes race(s) at Los Alamitos.
No explanation as to why (we can guess), but they posted this on their website:
"The running of the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby final will now be held on Saturday, November 22. The entries and post position draw for the Super Derby will be conducted on Wednesday, November 19.
The composition of the starters for the Super Derby is still being determined, hence the reschedule. Horses with qualifying times first through thirtieth are within the realm of participating in the Super Derby final. The Super Derby was originally moved from November 1 to November 15."
Looks like they expect a number of qualifying horses to be barred from the race.

Los Alamitos announced today that it is cancelling the Champion of Champions race this year. It was scheduled to have been run in about a month.
This after the changed the date of the Super Derby twice.
Seems they're struggling to get enough horses that have not been using illegal drugs to fill these races.
Yet another "nail"!
