LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION UNFORTUNATELY FOR PIMLICO IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF ONE OF THE WORST GHETTOS IN THE BALTIMORE AREA AND DESPITE IT'S HISTORY THE LAND IS WORTHLESS BECUSE OF IT'S SURROUNDING AREA, SADLY FRANK HAS ALLOWED THIS TRACK TO REVERT TO SLUM STATUS JUST LIKE THE NEIGHBORHOOD THAT SURROUNDS IT.

I do have to agree with George on one thing. for a track that I have never been to or seen the inside of, and have only seen when watching the races running, pimlico does and has for a while, look like a dump. its hard to believe that they could run a race as prestigious as the Preakness at a place like that. im not commenting on the rest of Maryland racing or the politics, but that place is embarrassing. los Alamitos before, and certainly after, the renovations looks 10x nicer. and as much as I dislike aqueduct and their racing, from a looks only vantage point, aqueduct looks a lot nicer then pimlico.

Pimlico is very old but I liked it! Sure - needs renovations but Frankie didn't get slots. Also, it's in the city. The whole neighborhood needs renovation! There are some old huge mansions across the street from the track that were probably beautiful years ago. Now they seem to be dilapidated apt buildings. But - stick to the Clubhouse, not the Grandstand. LOL

Jon, I used to love Pimlico. I remember one time I drove down there from Manhattan (about a 3-hour drive) on a Saturday morning. I had such a good time that day that the next Saturday I made the same trip. But that was more than 20 years ago.
I'd like to ask everyone here, of those that have made comments in this and other threads about Aqueduct, how many have actually been there recently to see it?
Aqueduct is the first thoroughbred track I ever attended, more than 45 years ago. I've probably been there more than any other of the dozens of tracks I've been to. I loved it.
After two trips in the last year (most recently in November), I'll probably never go again. Not that it's a dump, not that it's run down, and not that it's in a bad neighborhood (it's in a better neighborhood than Pimlico). The main reason I'll never go again is that it's no longer the old Aqueduct that I used to go to regularly, and it's simply no longer worth the 2-hour drive for me.

To answer a specific question which I do ALL the time.
My last visit to Aqueduct was Saturday,December 28th 2013. The place is a DUMP. Even the Equestris was more than 90% empty. Over priced food, crappy service.

What specifically contributes to Aqueduct's characterization as "a dump"?

George:
My Dr Pepper is getting warm, by me taking time out to answer you. So please no more questions. Here are my reasons why AQU is a dump:
1. Broken down bathrooms 2. Broken down elevators 3. Lousy food 4. Lousy service 5. Broken seats 6. Broken sound system 7. Bird crap all over 8. People smoking weed in stairways
Now I'm off to play some races... Because that's what Horseplayers do
