WHO AM I?
I was born in 1954 in Great Britain. Bred by the Aga Khan I made my way to America and into the barn of trainer John Nerud. A horse of small stature I was purchased in a lot of horses from the Aga Khan and at the time was considered not the best of the bunch by any means but not all that bad either so they gave me a chance.
I was defeated in the Kentucky Derby after my jockey midjudged the finish line and it slowed my momentum down only to be upset but a horse from the successful and famed Calumet Farm. After the Derby (where I finished 2nd) I skipped the Preakness Stakes and came back to win the Belmont Stakes beating the favorite, in record time and by a whopping 8 lengths...A record that stood until 1973 when a brilliant chestnut son of my defeated opponent blitzed the mile and half to a new and yet unbroken track record.
I was successful as a stallion but even more successful as a broodmare stallion and contributed (through one of my daughters) one of the only female Derby winners ever to win the historic race. After a successful stallion career I was pensioned in 1981 but lived for 7 more years until I died in 1988 at 34 years old. I am buried at the farm where I stood my entire stallion career.
A few of the notable races I won include the Belmont Stakes, the Jockey Club Gold Cup, the Travers, the Peter Pan, the Metropolitan handicap, and the Hollywood Gold Cup, among others. I was inducted into the Hall of fame in 1957 and am listed as one of the top race horses of the twentieth century (not giving which number I am as it will give it away). After my death, JOhn Nerud once said, "When he was sound and good, a horse never lived who could beat him ... he had it all—speed and endurance."

Gallant Man
ESPN Archive: Shoemaker's first Kentucky Derby victory came aboard Swaps in 1955. Two years later, he should have won his second Derby. Instead, he wound up with the embarrassment of standing up too soon before the wire, mistaking a furlong post for the finish line. Iron Liege charged past Gallant Man for the win.
Although Churchill Downs historians will argue the point, jockey Eddie Arcaro said, "They changed the finish line that year. They lengthened the stretch by a sixteenth (of a mile). After the race they did what they should

GOOD JOB CAIT!!!!
Sorry...admittedly I am NOT the ideal person to generate these kinds of :stump your brain" trivia things BUT at HRM we have played this MANY times and it is so fun for people to pose their own attempts to stump everyone...it's fun to go on a research hunt. Since I am not the best at it I picked a somewhat easy one...now'''it's your turn and HOEPFULLY i can find another one when it is my turn again that will REALLY send everyone on the hunt. I have a few in mind...now YOU pick one and stump us Chica!

who am I? I am a 59 yr. old man with the social skills of an 11 yr. old. I talk in the third person and live in an imaginary world where I am respected and treated as royalty by all. I have picked one winner in the last 3 months and continually knock classic winning horses while touting camels that cant get out of their own way.

I'm a 7 year old who's famous in my home state, sort of known elsewhere! When I was 2, I fractured my pelvis and spent a year in my stall. I didn't race until I was 4. My trainer is older than Coach. My jockey is not!
My recoird: Career Statistics: •Starts: 31 •Firsts: 21 •Seconds: 3 •Thirds: 1 •Earnings: $1,462,290
I am entered Saturday night on Penn Nat's big night!

WHO AM I? I AM A PAST WINNER OF A BREEDERS CUP RACE. I WAS 5 YEAERS OLD WHEN I WON THIS RACE AND EARNED NEARLY 3 MILLION DOLLARS IN MY CAREER. I WAS ONE OF THE GAMEST HORSES TO EVER RACE, BUT UNFORTUNATELY BROKE DOWN WHEN I WAS 7 YEARS OLD AND HAD TO BE EITHANIZED. I MADE A POOR 18 YR. OLD FAT KID CRY ALL THE WAY HOME ON THE BUS THAT DAY AS I WAS ONE OF HIS FAVORITE HORSES EVER. I AM BURIED ON THE BACKSTRETCH OF THE RACETRACK WHERE I BROKE DOWN. I WAS RIDDEN AND TRAINED BY A LITTLE KNOWN JOCKEY AND TRAINER. WHO AM I?

Who am I? I write at a 3rd grade level and know very little about horses. I suffer from chronic EE but then again so do many others. I could not handle the complexities of the game so I quit and play quarters now. I still try to opine and step with the mighty Eliteone because it elevates my game just talking horses with him. I am 49 going on 75 and feel older. Who am I?

Well...don't know if BEn's Cat was correct....we have to post one at a time and then the OP has to verify the correct answer...the person who answers correctly then posts a new Who Am I...LOL....we are getting ahead of ourselves.
Was Ben's Cat correct Cait?
Also...Wiz...I keep thinking and coming back to Great Communicator who broke down at Santa Anita but who was interred at Hollywood Park (and he is one of 3 that they need to worry about relocating his remains before they start digging the place up). Am I right?

YES TREET. I THOUGHT THEY BURIED HIM ON THE BACKSTRETCH AT SANTA ANITA. I WAS THERE THE DAY HE BROKE DOWN. I WAS CRUSHED.
NICE ORIGINALITY OBSOLETE. AS WELL AS THE FACTS. YOU GOT ONE THING RIGHT IN THE WHO POST. I DO PLAY QUARTERS. AND STILL KNOW MORE ABOUT THOROUGHBREDS THEN YOUR SIMPLE ASS DOES.

Wiz, I would have thought so too but I remember a big discussion here or elsewhere (cant' remember now) that Great Communicator, Native Diver and Landaluce are all interred at Hollywood Park. Perhaps they moved him? I dunno but I DO know that I HOPE, like Noor, that they extricate the remains of those three horses and have them permanently interred someplace else.
Native Diver is buried in the paddock underneath a statue of him and supposedly Landaluce and Great Communicator are buried in the infield.

Me too Cait!
He is such a warrior type horse and it is obvious King Leatherbury takes excellent care of him to have him still running competitively, completely sound, healthy and all AT AGE 7!!!
Hope she shows the "youngsters" his heels on SAturday and doesnt' look back!

(Probably another easy one)
WHO AM I??
I was a 19th century race horse who was wickedly fast and among the first group of horses ever to be inducted into the National Racing Hall of Fame (1955).
I DESPISED my jockey who was brutal and over-zealous with his use of whips and spurs (used back then).
LONG before the Eclipse awards, I was honored with the 2yo Champion Colt Award and also the Horse of The Year award (unofficially).
Unbeaten in 9 starts as a two year old, I also set an earnings record that stood unbroken for 38 years.
I ran in 25 lifetime starts with an impressive win record of 19-2-1.
I died of spinal meningitis at the age of six and only sired 20 foals during my time at stud. Among my only foals I sured a two time winning horse of the year & Belmont winner, and the first American bred English Oaks winner. Today on a country road in Kentucky sits a massive monument to me placed there by my owner (on what used to be our farm)...it says "Here lies the fleetest runner the American turf has ever known, and one of the most gamest and generous of horses."
During the times that I raced I amassed a whopping $193,550 in earnings and was considered one of the fastest sprinters of all time...so much so they nicknamed me "The Black Whirlwind" because many considered me to be jet black as opposed to dark bay.
Even though I sired only 20 foals my bloodline lives on deep in MANY bloodlines of the modern thoroughbred.
